Does your 2 year old watch Sponge Bob?

Ugh.

I have always hated this show. DH's little brother always watched when he was younger (he was 7ish) and I always felt it was annoying and kind of an "older kid" cartoon.

But thanks to my parents, Christopher loves it. I try not to put it on, but he caught it before I could change the channel today...

He only watches it when his older brothers have it on (12 and almost 10). I agree that it's an older kids cartoon. I find it annoying too. It held T's attention, but he didn't go crazy over it or anything.

When my stepdaughters put it on. Oh, and when daddy does too! Chat Icon Chat Icon

But I wouldn't judge anything based on what Cailen has watched so far. He has seen everything from Spiderman (1-3), Blade Chat Icon, not to mention Transformers and GI Joe Chat Icon Spongebob at this point... what difference does that make? Chat Icon

You know MK (my SIL)? I will never forget her thoughtfully asking at age 9 "I wonder what a Krabby patty tastes like" in all seriousness...

Nope! I hate that show! I do feel it may be geared toward older kids.
If he does see it (by accident), I'll change channel and he could care less.
He loves his Noggin'.

Mine is 3.5, but he LOVES Spongebob, and we love it too. I never watched it before he was interested, but he really likes it, and its something we can all watch together and talk about.

Now that I heard them say stupid I do not let him watch it at all. He would sometimes watch it but then would ask for me to change the channel.

My DS didn't watch it at 2, but now (at almost 4) we have to hide it from him Chat Icon

We do whatever we have to do to keep him away from it, because I personally don't like it ( its annoying to me) and when he does watch it, I find that he starts to act differently...

When we were in Punta Cana, he was sick for 2 days and the only thing that was on tv at the hotel that was in English was a Sponge Bob marathon Chat Icon That was enough for me !

Re: Does your 2 year old watch Sponge Bob?

My DD (3) got hooked around 2 thanks to my DH and my DS (1.5) is now hooked thanks to my DD. She's a huge Spongebob fan! (We have every episode.) We just had a Spongebob themed 3rd birthday party for her this past summer. Chat Icon

It's definitely geared towards older kids, but all that stuff just flies over my DDs head. I actually find Spongebob way better than some of the older Disney movies available. Some of that stuff could give a kid nightmares!

I can't say I see a difference in my DDs behavior. (If I did, I obviously wouldn't allow her to watch it.) Spongebob behaves way better than some of DD's fellow classmates and friends. Chat Icon

I think people have to base it on their own child's reaction to the show. I know my DD has a true concern for "Bobpants" (as she calls him). There usually isn't much violence, but if she sees that, she's worried about the character, she's not practicing the moves on her brother.

I grew up watching Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry and I turned out ok. Chat Icon (So I like to think. Chat Icon )

No. I do not like this show and avoid it at all costs. I don't find this to be an appropriate show for children at all.

No. I can't stand it Chat Icon

But my nephews (6 and 10) watch it and so do DH's nephews (around the same age)

I'm pretty sure if B watched it she wouldn't "get it".

Thats really interesting that you say that, Noah also has a genuine concern for Spongebob and Mr Crabs, and has on one occasion gotten genuinely upset about the two of them having a fight and Spongebob going home. The most interesting thing is that this was when him and I were away from his Daddy for two weeks and I thought this was his way of expressing that he missed his Daddy. I don't necessarily think its appropriate, but the show is based really on the relationships between Spongebob and Patrick, with a little bit of Squidward & Mr Crabs mixed in. At the end of the day, Spongebob & Patrick really want to be bestest friends forever, and they always forgive each other. How could that be inappropriate!!! Chat Icon

No. But, I'm very choosy in the TV I let him watch. I've seen clips of it at friend's houses and I don't like it.

Re: Does your 2 year old watch Sponge Bob?

At 2, no, she didn't watch it. At 3, yes, she does. For her, she actually gets it and laughs hysterically at it. If they say "stupid" or something to that effect, she comes running to tell me that they said a bad word and she knows she's not supposed to say itChat Icon Chat Icon I would prefer her not to watch it, but whatever, she's smart, well-adjusted and grounded, I'm sure she won't be scarred.
