Does your child(ren) have a Cell Phone?
If not what is a good age to give a child a cell phone?

Re: Does your child(ren) have a Cell Phone?
this was a big argument with hubby. he went and got our 7 and 9 year old girls cell phones. the prepaid ones of course. he felt that since they go on playdates they should have a phone. i didn't think giving them a phone before their 13th birthday was a good idea but its actually worked out well. i still think its too young but it does ease my mind a little that i can call them at any time if i wanted to.

I'd say when he's paying the bill but I suspect I'm going to opt for one sooner than that. It's less of an age factor than a responsbility factor for me.
I will have GPS on it.

Re: Does your child(ren) have a Cell Phone?
My stepdaughter is 12...she has had a phone since she was about 10. When she was 10, she had the Amigo phone from Verizon which only allowed her to call 4 phone numbers that we programmed in. It was home phone, DH's cell, my cell and my sister. She could receive phone calls from anyone. When that phone broke, they didn't make it anymore, so she wound up with a "regular" phone. I did use the parental restrictions and she can't text or use voicemail. I told her when she gets a job and can pay for all the extra's, she can have them

Yes, the GPS feature that will be on the new iPhone is a good feature to have on a phone for your child.

Re: Does your child(ren) have a Cell Phone?
My son is 10 and I have one for him - the prepaid kind.
He only gets it when he is not with me - like when he is with his dad for his visitation - it gives him a little extra security knowing he can get me at anytime - and it gives me piece of mind.

Re: Does your child(ren) have a Cell Phone?
My oldest will be 11 soon and is going into middle school. She is getting one this summer. Most of her friends have just gotten or are just getting phones. Middle school is kind of the line in the sand for me. With after school activities, early/late bus decisions and sports, its as much for me as it is for her. Up until this point, I have occasionally given her an extra phone we have if she is with a friend or I feel the need to get her quickly.

Re: Does your child(ren) have a Cell Phone?
I have a stepson and he has been askign for a cell phone since he was like 8
He is 10 going on 11 and I said NO. He has no business having a cell phone,he isnt mature enough yet and doesnt really do anything extra curricular besides play video games at home.
