does your infant/newborn use a pacifier over night? question for you!
my DD LOVES the pacifier...its almost a necessity now, she is 9 wks old. it is such a pain b/c she now depends on it at night to fall asleep and stay asleep. i know in the future this will be good as she can put it in herself when it falls out. however now when it falls out i have to run in 10x to put it back in and re-soothe her. my is did your infant learn to hold on to the paci better as he/she used it more? i mean do they become better at sucking and holding on to it over night after a few days or will it take months? thanks!!

It's not that they learn to hold on to it better. As they get older, they don't have so much of a sucking reflex. So they don't rely on it so much to stay asleep. They do learn to put it back in pretty quickly, maybe at 3 or 4 months. But, I noticed with DS that once it falls out, he's fine and he doesn't put it back in until early in the morning.

Oh boy do I remember those days! I didn't sleep at all because the darn thing never stayed in. Now she needs it to fall asleep, but once it falls out, it stays where it lands until morning.

same with DD - she sucks on it for a little while to fall asleep - and then it falls out and she remains sleeping. She may wake early AM and find it and pop it back in to nod back out for awhile. By 3 mths or so she was pretty good at finding it and putting it back in herself...GL!

DS sleeps with his, I tend to go in and snag it out before I go to sleep - he doesn't even notice.
ETA - but then again, I usually change his diaper while he is asleep just before I go to bed too - he is a good sleeper obviously ...

My son uses a pacifier sometimes for bed. But when it falls out that's that. My 1st ds relied on it more and I remember what a pain that was

Honestly... my son LOVED his pacifier... and used it often.
He just 'gave' it up around 18 months. just like that.
I got lucky...
