Re: what do you think of this desk?
I have ordered a halltree and a small cabinet. Once put together, I think they are pretty nice and sturdy.
I think the desk is cute. The handles arent my taste though. Neither are the handles on the items I bought from them, but I changed them. But that is just my personal opinion.

Re: what do you think of this desk?
I would be afraid I would kick the bottom all the time and damage it. I like a desk that has a big open space underneath for leg room.

Re: what do you think of this desk?
I work with computers all the time, so I'm never happy seeing a computer inside a box, even if the back is open. Computers need decent airflow to stay cool. Cabinets like that don't allow proper airflow, and could cause damage to the computer. It might not, but I don't like taking chances like that myself.

My exact thought when I saw it and then my second thought was that I wouldn't like it without open space underneath

Re: EDITED, ANOTHER QUESTION... what do you think of this desk?
I figured that was your reasoning, and that is why you didnt want an emtpy space under for the legs.
Take a peek on this website. I bought a computer armoire at an office store in Farmingdale, from this maker.
Take a look if there is anything you might like.http://www.sauder.com/
http://www.sauder.com/furniture/product.asp?p=416 This was mine. It was hard to put together but DH did it, and it has held up just great after 5 years of much much use.

Re: EDITED, ANOTHER QUESTION... what do you think of this desk?
i'm not looking for something "functional" as a desk, persay... i'm not going to be working at it; i just want a nice piece of furniture to put my computer on, go on lif and write out checks for bills things i like at stores like raymour and flannigan or fortunoff, for example, are thousands of dollars, and i'm not looking for that either, so it's tough.
goobster, your desk wasn't exactly what i was looking for, but that website did have one desk (in all different finishes) that was exactly the style i was looking for. i'm not a fan of the handles though... are they able to be changed? those prices are awesome!
if anyone knows of any other websites/companies like that - please linky!

Re: EDITED, ANOTHER QUESTION... what do you think of this desk?
What about this from Bombay?
I have a small desk from Decorators Home Collection. You get what you pay for. It served its purpose in our apt, but it was really cheap and a pain to put together.

$125
$350
$400
$500

Handles can be changed. They come with the desk, but you put them on. Hinges, color of them, etc, are not as easily changed due to holes predrilled etc.
They have a nice selection and prices are great. For what you are looking for and what you want to pay, exactly what you want.
I didnt want to pay alot for mine either. I only planned to have it a few years. Here I am almost 6 years later, and it even survived a move...and I still have it. Nothing can beat the fuctionality of it.
The store I got mine at was in Farmingdale on Route 110. Office Direct I think it was called. You may be able to find a retailer, if not them, who has that one in stock and you can go see it.

tine73 and skew, thank you for the suggestions and of course, no offense - but none of those are my taste at all.
