Dog adoption questions..
I adopted a dog last month from a family on craigslist - the previous owner told me she couldn't locate the papers but would have the file forwarded from her vet to mine.. hasn't happened even after numerous emails nicely requesting she do so.
My questions are:
She is implanted with an AVID chip... if I have no record of her AVID chip # and I know my vet doesn't have a scanner, how do I update with my info as the new owner in case she is ever lost?
Do I really need the file from the old vet or can I just tell the vet her vaccination status? (I was "told" there has never been any issues and that she is up to date on all shots as of this past summer)
Thanks in advance!

Re: Dog adoption questions..
Your vet doesn't have a scanner? I woudl find another vet that has a scanner to see what the # is. Is there any possible way the dog isn't chipped and it's a lie(not to be negative)?
In addition, I am not sure how easily you can update the chip info. Did you try contacting home again to see what they recommend? My concern is dogs are stolen everyday, and I can't see how a new owner can easily change the registration info without the help of the old owner, for fear of a stolen dogs info being changed. Am I making sense?
These are just hte first thoughts that popped into my mind.

Re: Dog adoption questions..
I had a similar problem with one of my horses. He was chipped when I bought him, but the owner didn't have the chip # and couldn't locate the info. Just find a vet with a scanner to get the number. If you have paperwork about the adoption or have the old owners to verify, it'll be easy to update your info.
