Questions before adoption
I applied for a dog from a rescue group. I got a call today and they did an interview over the phone. The doggie's foster parent will be giving me a call later this week to do another interview. She said I should have a list of questions ready to ask. The dog is out of state, so I wouldnt be meeting her before my application is approved.
I know basic questions like is she good with kids/strangers/other animals. Can you guys help me with some others? I dont want to forget anything Thanks

Re: Questions before adoption
Have they had any issues with her? Housebreaking, chewing, etc. What does she eat? Does she have any favorite toys? Is she crate trained? Is there anything she can't eat? Is she obedience trained? Does she walk on a leash?
That's all I can think of...I'm sure the others can think of more.
And congrats for going through a rescue! That's how we got Misty!!

Re: Questions before adoption
Does she take any medication - flea/ heartworm preventative Crate trained? Where does she sleep? How is she with bathing/nail cutting? Food aggression? How is she with being alone? Is there something that soothes her?

Re: Questions before adoption
In addition to the above, I'd also ask why the dog is for adoption (ie, what is the circumstance of the dog coming to the care of the adoption org).
Also ask what the foster home's routine has been with the dog. For example, are they socialising the dog with other dogs; people? Is the dog on a strict schedule for feeding, training and play? Does the dog need to be or need to NOT be crated? Some rescues from Puppy Mills will not crate at all due to their earlier life trauma.
I'd also ask them things like when do they plan and how often does the organization recommend home checks. (One org I adopted from had actually come back a few times to *check* on my dog after we had officially adopted.)
Ask if you are responsible to spay/neuter the pet or if they have done it already. (This question is not really to get an answer, but more to show the org that you understand the importance & need for the procedure.)
Congrats on adopting and best of luck.

Re: Questions before adoption
Thanks for all the help. I got the call from the foster mom yesterday. I asked all of these questions, and everything went well. Hopefully we'll have a little doggy next week!!!
