Dog dry skin?
Does anone have any recommendations of what I can do for Jersey, her skin is SO dry, she keeps scratching herself. She went to the vet last week and he said she has some old flea bites, but nothing active thank god. I just feel so bad because her skin seems very dry, I am now seeing some little white flakes. Any recommendations? Should we bathe her? My vet isn't in

Re: Dog dry skin?
Try giving her an oatmeal bath (they sell oatmeal shampoo in the pet store) and adding a little olive oil to her food.

No problem. They believe she is a lab/boxer mix We gave her her first bath last night. We used the oatmeal shampoo and we just got a new food for her. We got Nutro which came hightly recommended. Hope this helps.

My mom adds an oil(contains vitamins and omegas) to their dogs food. I also give it to my cats.

My dog has allergies and has dry skin.
We bathe him with oatmeal shampoo, and oatmeal conditioner. The conditioner really makes a difference.
Also, we feed him only food for dogs with allergies. Its called Solid Gold-Wolf King.
I've definitely seen a difference.

There is a capsule called Dermcaps you can have them swallow it whole in a treat or cut the opilll open and pour the liquid on their food.

Re: Dog dry skin?
My dog is going through the same thing...we thought it was food allergies (bc he had bumps in certain spots on his body) but we dont feed him any table scraps...he only eats Wellness White Fish...all he does is scratch himself and yesterday I heard him moaning...I also bathe him with a medicated shampoo which relieves the itching but temporarily...if he doesnt get better by the end of the week Im going to take him to the vet on Saturday...I feel so bad bc he is suffering from the itchiness...

Re: Dog dry skin?
I just asked the vet about this today - he says he has been seeing a LOT of dry skin this winter because the weather has been so dry. He also told me not to worry if puppy isn't scratching. If it doesnt improve by srpingtime, to consider a fatty supplement. I will probably just add olive oil to his food.

I was going to suggest this too. Another option is to get medicated shampoo from your vet. This is what we do and we try and give Cooper a bath washing him with this shampoo at least 2 a week. When haven't done this but our vet recommends a Fish & Potato diet to help with the dry skin.
Also, make sure you're not using anything on your carpets like Fabreeze or a Carpet Powder... that could definitely be the cause of the flakey dry skin. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Like I said we did change her food & bathed her w/ oatmeal shampoo, seems to have made a slight difference. She has a vet appt. next week so I'll ask him as well. I may try the olive oil on the food too.
