Dog Hair - Furminator
It's this time of year again and my lab Jackson is shedding like mad. DH and I can't keep up with it. We are recently married and DH never brushed him. So now, I'm thinking of buying the Furminator. If anyone has one, do you like it? Does it work? Will it help the situation? Any other suggestions?

Re: Dog Hair - Furminator
We have one and like it very much. It works really well. My only complaint is that the hair gets static-y and sticks to the brush (and everything else), so I prefer to use it outside when possible.
Other things that have helped with our dog's shedding problem is changing his diet to healthier food (we also add Prozyme to his food and he gets a special oil as well once a day - EicosaDerm by DermaPet - recommended by our vet, which helps with his seasonal allergies and his fur and skin).

Re: Dog Hair - Furminator
it really depends on the breed of your dog. i noticed that the furminator worked great with certain short haired dogs but terrible on others. it never worked for my dogs and i have a jack russell, mini dachshund and a pitbull. however on labs and dogs like that, it works wonders. for my dogs, i got the kong zoom groom brush and it's AMAZING!!! it's rubber and doesn't hurt them so you can brush them in different directions and it works wonders. also if you have a dog that the furminator is good with, i recommend getting the furminator conditioner, wash them, dry them then use it. you'll get A LOT more hair out that way

I use one for my cat and LOVE it. It absolutely reduces the amount of fur he leaves on everything.

I use it on my grandfather's two shepards. Holy cow...use it outside!!! You can make a new dog with what is shed. Like a PP said, it does get staticy and that's annoying. I also use a flea comb to get the thicker clumps out, too.

my dog hates it. - actually he hates being brused all together since his horror visit to the groomer.

Exactly! We always use it outside. The amount of hair that comes off is insane. I love it.
