dogs and babies
anyone else have multiple dogs I have 4 and 2 of them are constantly barking every time a car drives by the bus ect. I live in a neighborhood not on a busy road but these 2 dogs bark at every little thing where I have to turn the TV way up I am wondering if this will keep the baby from sleeping?? I have heard they get used to it but they are driving me nuts considering I am home all day long I have tried one of those bark control things you put in the room and it makes a high pitch noise when they bark but they bark at that as if to laugh at it I dont want to use bark collars I dont want to completely stop them from barking but maybe bark when it neccessary and not all the time... i am getting very frustrated

Re: dogs and babies
right there with you! I have a jack russell who barks at everything... a dog walking by, a car door slamming, car going by, basically anything and everything.
Like you, i don't want to get a bark collar, but i'm starting to wonder how it will affect the baby. I'm hoping is a sound sleeper.
Otherwise i've heard that in order to get the dog to stop barking so much, you have to teach the dog to speak on command first. Then when he/she barks after that... you say no and they will eventually get it.

Re: dogs and babies
I was worried about the same thing but someone gave me a really good tip, The baby is not going to be bothered by the barking when he/she comes home and hears it cause the baby is already used to all the barking with being inside our belly's. I have 2 puppies and was wondering the same thing. My friend who has a 10 month old told me this cause the same thing was worrying them. They have 2 dogs that bark at anything and her baby will sleep through them barking, not even wake up from it.

Re: dogs and babies
My dogs drive me insane. They playfight non stop...and Im worried that it gets really rough and baby can get caught up in it. In addition, one of my dogs is OBSESSED with balls. I cant even say the word witihout her freaking. Anything that squeeks. Im getting a trainer. I looked into it...its pricey but it needs to be done!

I agree. I have two barkers and I do not plan to limit their barking anymore than I do now. A child will get used to whatever noises are in the home. I have seen children who are used to noise sleep through huge loud family parties.
I don't think dogs should be expected to stop barking for an infant. The infant would do better being used to noises, for sure, than being protected from them. It will make for a much more sound sleeper! JMO

I have three dogs...they don't bark too much b/c we are the last house on a dead end and no one comes down here. But the baby can already hear the dogs barking in utero...so sounds like barking dogs, vaccumms, etc, they are accustomed to hearing them and will sleep though them!

I just read about this today. It's called habituation. The baby will get used to sounds in the womb, like dogs barking or traffic on a busy street.
