Dont judge me for asking this but...

how bad is it to go in a tanning bed while pregnant? Not for the tan but bc I get rashes and tanning makes them go away. My legs are covered right now Chat Icon and I know that 8 min in a tanning bed would make it go away. How bad can 8 min be? Chat Icon

I would never judge you or anyone! I really don't know a thing about this but I'm pretty certain my "what to expect" book says best to avoid...much like teeth whitening that i miss so much...

Re: Dont judge me for asking this but...

I think they would be most worried about your body temp rising during that time.

I couldnt do it, even though I do go for the same reason you listed. Luckily for me my excema was pretty good while I was pregnant. I just felt like I would be "microwaving" my baby. LOL.

Re: Dont judge me for asking this but...

I wouldn't do it because when I use to go tanning before pregnancy every time I would get out I would feel dizzy and just "off" then again that might be just my reaction

Re: Dont judge me for asking this but...

oh, I definitely wouldn't judge you for asking this. Honestly, I wouldn't risk it. I've heard that it's really dangerous while pregnant mostly because of the rising of your temp. If you feel like it's really important, I would say to at least call your dr FIRST or wait till your next appointment to discuss this. S/he would know better than any of us.

Re: Dont judge me for asking this but...

I'm pretty sure self-bronzers / tanners are totally fine, though. (I agree with everyone else about the tanning bed itself.) Oh, and there's nothing wrong at all with asking that!

No one would judge you for asking an innocent question!! Chat Icon

I've heard that tanning beds are an absolute no-no when pregnant. Sorry!

Like the others said, I'd be more worried about your temperature rising.

So no, I wouldn't risk it.

But maybe you can ask your doc what could be a safer alternative for the rashes?

Can you contact a dermatologist that does light therapy? Maybe they can do it just on your legs.

They say your skin is more sensitive to the sun which it is. It may make your skin even worse.

Re: Dont judge me for asking this but...

I feel your pain......I have bad eczema and tanning really helps. I haven't gone in a long time though even before I got pregnant because Im scared of skin cancer. I used to have a prescription but I haven't used it since getting pg because of the steroid in it. I use otc cortisone cream instead. It doesn't work as good as the prescription (or tanning) but helps with the itchingChat Icon

Thank you for asking this!! Unfortunately, I am a tanning bed queen but have not since I got my BFP. I miss it so much and I do it soley for the color Chat Icon I feel so pale but I too would feel like I would be microwaving my baby!...I opted for Jergens products. I know you need it for a diff reason, sometimes they have those partial machines where your whole body isn't in a bed...I don't see that being as bad but would ask your doc first!

What about the standing booths? I haven't tanned in years but I remembered being cooler in the booth than the bed.

Re: Dont judge me for asking this but...

I would talk to your doctor see what they say. I personally would not do it.
As stinky as it may be having the rash on your leg, I've endured bad skin, stretch marks that I never had with my previous PG, amongst other things I wish I didn't have to have, but I know when the baby comes it will all go away (well except the stretch marks) Hang in there!

Pregnancy is an immune suppressant. Your rashes will absolutely go away. I have some eczema which is only coming back 6 weeks after I delivered. Give it a little time.

Re: Dont judge me for asking this but...

I was told it is horrible by my OB. I asked her about UV light when I got my nails done and it led to a conversation about tanning.

She said it is like cooking the fetus.

Others might disagree, but why take a chance.
