Don't know what to do anymore...
I just can't get DS to finish a bottle. Ever since he started having solids. He has decreased his formula intake. He used to have 6 ounces. Then he was having 5 now I'm lucky if he has a 4 ounce bottle.
He recently got his 1st tooth a few weeks ago and I'm not sure if more are coming in or if it's the solids. Yesterday he had a total of 18 ounces for the day not counting the 4 ounces that he had in his cereal feedings.
This morning he had the 5 ounces no problem, but the rest of the day has been a struggle for him to finish his bottles. If it was the teething I don't think he would have had that 5 ounce bottle this morning. I don't know.
The doctor said the other day that 20 ounces is good for him but now he's not even drinking that. He only gets 4 bottles a day and if he has 4 ounces then he'll only be having 16 ounces for the day...not counting the extra 4 that goes into his cereal.
This has been going on since for 3 days now...

He's less hungry b/c of the solids and counting the formula that's in his cereal, he is getting 20. what is the problem?

Isn't what he is actually drinking separate from what he has in his cereal?

I know but sometimes it's 3 ounces!
At first I thought it was teething since he already cut one tooth. But once you take the bottle away he's fine...

Re: Don't know what to do anymore...
It's totally normal for him to drink less formula now because he's eating more solids . If he's drinking 16 oz of formula plus getting another 4 from the cereal, he's fine. That's a total of 20 oz. He doesn't have to drink 20 oz plus take more in his cereal.

Ali has been doing the same thing- but she has wanted more solids, so I give it her. My doctor said some kids like to eat rather than drink. It seems that Ali is this way. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it until his next appt and that is only if he hasn't gained any weight or lost.

My ped told me somedays your son will out eat you and some days he will not. It's totally normal. There are days where I'm hungry all day and there are days where I don't feel like eating a thing. As long as your son is gaining weight, he's fine.

I just spoke to the doctor and he said that 20 ounces is fine and that includes milk that goes into his food. He said I could put more milk into his cereal if I wanted to.
His next visit is on the 30th. We'll see what the weight gain is then. In the meantime this is his solids intake:
6 tbsp of cereal (3 in the morning 3 at night with 2 to 2 1/2 ounces of milk in each feeding)
9 tbsp of fruit 3 in the morning, 3 in the afternoon and 3 in the evening
3 tbsp of veggies in the afternoon (it's less if I am introducing something new)

I'm very neurotic when it comes to things like eating. I just hope he doesn't loose weight. That's all...

Unless he is severly underweight for his age - I wouldn't worry about it.

ditto.
us mommies of three cant imagine worrying about these things anymore can we Liz
Gio - I told you, you worry too much about little details. I dont think Ive counted the daily ounces since Luciano's been born. and he hasnt had more than a 6oz bottle to this day. He's just not a big drinker in one sitting. There's no formula or perfect routine for all babies. If Matthew seems perfectly happy and healthy, why get so worried?????????

Re: Don't know what to do anymore...
I'm just a worry wort. It is in my nature.
His last feeding was at 5 and an hour and a half later he finally took one more oz and had 5. Right now he is rubbing his lips together. Looks as if he is chewing on something. He did this the last time he was teething.
I think he really may be teething.

don't worry about it....as long as he is gaining weight it's fine.
I had the same concerns with DD (but at a later age) and the Dr. said it was fine.

I'm going to try and not worry until his next appoint which is on the 30th. If his weight is fine then I won't worry as much...

Re: Don't know what to do anymore...
Nope still refuses. Could he possibly be constipated? His poops have been a little hard looking, not as mushy as they used to be. Could it the kinds of foods he's been having. What foods cause constipation? He's been having squash and banana's for lunch since yesterday. The squash he's been having all week.
