Dont know what to do anymore (food related)
I havent eaten red meat in over 16 yrs. I was a vegetarian for awhile but went back to poultry yrs ago. I HATE fish.
But since becoming pregnant i am SO picky about chicken. Not to mention how SICK of it i am. I am having a really hard time finding healthy lunches and dinners. I miss tuna sandwiches and turkey.Iknow some of you are gonna say its ok to eat turkey but if you knew me and my toms of worry that im always having about this pregnancy, youd know i wont do it.
So.... can anyone suggest some healthy things they have been eating that are yummy and satisfying. Im even willing to MAYBE start red meat again if the dish is right.
HELP!!
Sincerely, Hungry

Re: Dont know what to do anymore (food related)
you are so cute
Early in my pregnancy when I was constantly starving, I'd bring actual MEALS for lunch. So not like me, cuz I'm not a big lunch person. I usually brought left over pasta. I have a great recipe with sun dried tomatoes and chicken apple sausage and broccoli if you like. :) Maybe you can make pasta salad too? I can share that one with you as well..
I started making chicken salad (I know, you're done with chicken) but I made it really tasty using rotisserie chicken and craisins. Then after that I switched to egg salad for a while.
Now I'm back to my old usual - PB&J. I just bring a lot of snacks to fill me up - lots of fruit.
HTH!

Why not just make a turkey and freeze some of the meat for later in the week. Or, you could get the Applegate Farms brand deli turkey which is 100% natural, nitrate free. It's sold at Wild By Nature and completely safe to eat during pregnancy. I say, Stick with things you know you like....there are healthier versions of grocery store crap out there. It's so sweet of you that you're willing to give red meat a try after all these years....but remember that you don't have to do that just yet (unless of course, you are ready!).

Re: Dont know what to do anymore (food related)
pregnancy has completly turned me off to any meats and chicken. I cant eat shellfish bc im allergic to it so that kinda leaves me limited to foods. I LOVE LOVE veggies though - moreso now than ever b4. Eggplants, zucchini any type of greens, peppers, u name it its for me! I also treat myself to pizza and some pastas.

I don't eat meat, and haven't done so in either pregnancy (Except for one dabble with turkey my last pregnancy and one dabble with lamb chops this pregnancy ), though I do eat a lot of fish.
But here are some ideas...
I eat a lot of eggs - shakshuka (israeli egg dish with tomato sauce), egg schnitzel, omelettes, fried eggs, egg burrito, etc.
We also eat garden burgers, veggie hot dogs, black bean burgers (with salsa, guac and sour cream - YUM), pasta with veggies, pasta with tofu, pasta with spinach, feta, tomatoes and pine nuts, vegetarian chili, falafel with pita, hummus and israeli salad, eggplant parmesan, vegetarian lasagna.
Those are what I usually eat for dinner. For lunch I usually get a spinach salad and load it with veggies, eggs, nuts, etc.

I hear ya! My lunches were always brown bagged tuna or cold cut sandwiches. I've been at a loss this whole pregnancy.
I try to bring leftovers from the night before, PB&J, egg salad, alot of pizza.
If you miss turkey, what about cooking a turkey breast ? Then you can have it for sandwiches all week. I'll usually do that with either a roasted chicken or turkey breast.

Re: Dont know what to do anymore (food related)
You CAN eat tuna. I just asked my doctor again two weeks ago. She said I can have it up to twice a week.
If you miss turkey - why not make a turkey sandwich and warm it up in a sandwich maker? Once the coldcuts are heated they are fine. I am always having ham and swiss sandwiches heated up.

Oh noo - I wasn't telling you to eat ham - I was telling you that I eat ham/swiss heated up all the time!
Heat it up - it will be delish and you will fulfill your cold cut craving. I live for my sandwich maker these days!

Re: Dont know what to do anymore (food related)
I never had food adversions but I get sick of things a lot quicker. Here are some samples of what I have done for Lunch & Dinner:
Lunch: Homemade garden salads with lots of fresh veggies, cranberries, cut up cheese & grilled chicken pieces.
Egg salad with green olives on WW bread or wrap
PB&J sandwich with cottage cheese on the side
Leftovers from the night before
Pasta dishes & salads
Dinner: Grilled chicken with veggies & rice
Homemade turkey burgers on WW bread
Marinated london broil (not much a red meat eater but with an iron deficiency now, I needed to up my intake)
Pizza
Egg omlettes with cheese & mushrooms
Grilled cheese with a side of vegetarian beans
Turkey meatballs with egg noodles
Chicken or Italian sausage with peppers & onions
Like others have said, I try to bring a lot of snacks with me or keep them in the house. Now that it is summer, I have a ton of fresh fruit & dried fruit.

No, actually I make them! There are LOTS of recipes online - I make a whole bunch and then freeze some for later. They are seriously my favorite - that, and grilled veggie burritos
