Don't know why I was thinking of this...
Just curious...were any of you smokers before getting pregnant? I would have considered myself a social smoker, with a cocktail I would probably have one. I guess that is still considered a smoker though. I was talking with DH last night about if I would go back to that habit after the baby and I really can't imagine smoking ever again after the baby. If you were a smoker how was it for you to quit? Do you think you will go back to it? Again not sure why this popped into my head!

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I was a social smoker too. Cigerette smoke was one of the things that made me soooo sick during the 1st tirmester. If someone was smoking I knew it right away. It doesn't make me sick as much anymore but I cannot imagine ever actually smoking one myself again.

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I was a smoker two years before getting pregnant. Quitting was hard. None of the patches, gum etc worked for me. I had to do it cold turkey and it was so worth it.
I'll never smoke again.

It really is such a hard habit to break. When I would quit it was cold turkey, once for 5 years and than right before the wedding for a year or so and than with the stress of the wedding I started smoking socially again. I feel the same way right now as you but wonder if I have a glass of wine or 2 after the baby will it bring me right back? I hope to think that this little life inside me will keep me from ever doing it again and those commercials that scare the living bejesus out of me!

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I was a pretty heavy smoker and quit once I got pg...I would love to say that I'll never smoke again - as right now I have no interest - but only time will tell. I highly doubt I would be able to do it anywhere near my so I'm pretty confident that I won't start again.

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I was exactly the same way....a social smoker, a couple of my friends are smokers, but it's a hard habit to break.
I was out in the city w/ some of my friends that smoke and I thought I might want to go out w/ them, but I really think it's the alcohol that makes smoking so appealing...b/c I was stone sober and the smell of them even when they came back was gross to me.
As for after the baby is born, I hope that not smoking for so long will put me off it for good, I have never stopped for so long since I started social smoking about 5yrs ago.... but I have no idea what will happen once I get few cocktails in my hand!!!

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I was a smoker. DH just asked me the other day if I think I'll ever go back, and I told him "I hope not." I'll be honest. I would NEVER smoke while pregnant, but there have been times I've missed it. I wouldn't call it an outright craving, but once in a great while, I think "I could go for one."
I don't want to go back to smoking, and I know I will never smoke in front of my child. But, as someone else said, only time will tell. Honestly, at $10 a pack in the city, that would be a HUGE deterrent, not even taking into consideration the health risks.

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
Both Dh and I quit after the wedding, and I was about a pack a day. I don't miss it at all, and I find it completely disgusting . Even social smoking, now that I will be a Mom, I do not want to put my health at risk just for a cig.

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant with no problems and I don't think I'd go back to what I was. Maybe at a wedding after a couple of drinks socially but I definitely do not want DD to see me smoking.

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I used to smoke and quit a few years ago, but now with all of the anti-smoking laws and certain places where you can and can't smoke i really don't think i would ever go back to it. For the biggest reason is that if you ever walk outside of a building into the "smoking" area it's just disgusting and even walking by people that are smoking just turns me off.

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I quit smoking last April. I wanted to cleanse my body b4 TTC in November. I used Zyban and it worked. I do hope I never fall back into the addiction because I never realized how addicted I was till I quit! Cigarettes are a very sneaky addiction and quitting is not easy. I wouldn't want to have to go through quitting again! I did have several cigs when I was drinking at my bachelorette party in October but the next day I wanted nothing to do with them.

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
My last cigarette was July 21, 2007. I got my BFP on July 22 - when I woke up that morning I debated on whether to have a cig before I tested - as my last, but decided, if I was blessed to be PG that was it for me. I haven't had one since. Granted, I'm still nursing, and obviously PG again, so I wouldn't, but I don't have the desire to go back to it - now I feel it's not fair to my children. DS quit too (or cut back significantly enough that I haven't seen or smelt a cig on him since I've been PG with DS).

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I was a smoker before I got preganant, and went back @ 1-2 mos after. Worst move ever. Now that Ds is almost 7 mos and almost starting to move around, I know I can not go out for a smoke" when he is running around, and I have to quit all over again. At least when I was pregnant, I had a reason. Please do not go back if you can help it!!

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I quit in August 2004 because I wanted to start to try to get pregnant. Several things got in the way of us starting to TTC but I never had another cigarette after that ... well, except I had two at my 20 year HS reunion (and thought I would die ).

Re: Don't know why I was thinking of this...
I as a smoker before my son, I quit cold turkey but a lot of people around me smoke so I slowly started to smoke again after I had him, but I was never again a heavy smoker and I smoked these really light ciggerettes ( not healthier in anyway) ...
Then I quit as soon as I got PG this time. My Dr. Actually wanted me to Wean off them b/c he said smokers bodies go through tremendous stress and hormone changes, endocrine changes etc when they quit and it might be too much....but I hated the smell and said, no way, Im done.
I PRAY I never pick it up again. I know the stress of 3 kids will be tough, but I will never smoke in front of them so I think it might be easy.
