Don't mean to bore you, but I just figured something out about my maternity leave...

I have been with the Co. for 13 years, I run the office, they do not have any other office workers here, becuase I do the work of 3 people, anyway, I get a pay raise every January, however, this January I told them I was preggo and got no raise, so I figured I wouldn't say anything b/c I was thinking they would give me a decent Maternity pkg, well now that I am close to due date, they are not answering any of my questions about pay. I have 2 bosses, brothers, one doesn't want to give me anything the other is more compassionate, so I was thinking, even if they gave me the F*#$( back pay of my raise since January that would be almost close to what I am asking for, for my maternity leave, is that unbeleivable?

I called in sick yesterday, besides feeling lousy I can't even look at them!

Thanks for listening to me! Chat Icon

That's HORRIBLE!!! I can't believe they don't want to give you ANYthing! How much time are they giving you after the baby is born?

I'm sorry...I"m in a similar situation and although I am not getting paid for my time off, they are being decent in every other area. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I didn't ask about how much time they would allow me - I TOLD them I will be taking 12 weeks off, they want me to work from home for some of that - which MIGHT be ok will me.

I am just so upset and taking this personally, they won't even answer my questions.

If they want you to work from home, are they willing to pay you?

You may want to start docunmenting everything that you want discussed with them. Send an email with return receipt outlining all your points.

I don't know what your relationship is with these bosses, but can you confront them? Is it possible to come out and say something along the lines of you deserve A,B,and C because of suchandsuch and you don't understand why they are being so difficult in coming up with a plan that works for everyone.

There are FMLA laws...you should print out a copy and give it to them being they don't know what they are apparently. I can see working from home part time after a month or so with the baby, but I honestly wouldnt do anything for them after how rudely they have treated you after 13 YEARS!!!!! I would definitely speak to them about it and tell them how hurt you are. That is so inconsiderate, rude and disgusting on their part. I wouldnt even want to work for them after that.

Believe me I thought of quitting, not to brag, but I would love to see how they operate without me - they can't even order their own Lunch!

I don't make GREAT $$, I make 50K a year, and I don't know if I could find that STARTING somewhere else.

It sounds to me like they: 1. have no idea what to do and 2. are hoping that if they stall long enough, you'll cave and ask for less, or be willing to take less. That is so wrong!! And I think you're right- if you do leave they will really be in trouble. Good luck finding someone as good as you have been and who knows everything you know. They can't put a price on your experience.

I hope it works out for you.

That's ridiculous! People are so selfish...it's not like you didn't work for it.

I would say that this maternity leave is a perfect time to do some job hunting.

ETS: I just read your post about not making as much. I think that's pretty good money and you can definately make that somewhere else. After all, you do have experience.

Don't you just love that! They won't know what hit them when you're gone and I bet they come crawling back with lots of incentives for you too! They unfortunately sound like the type of employers who won't realize what they have until you're gone.

That really bites! My company isn't giving me anything either. I left the other day at noon because my feet wer so swollen, and they charged me for 1/2 a vacation day. After 16 years!!
