Got the info about my maternity leave policy

Well it was not as good as I thought it was....basically this is what I get

I get 2 weeks prior to my edd and 6 weeks after birth for maternity leave. The first of those 8 weeks are paid as PTO (vacation time at 100%), the next 3 weeks are paid at 100% through the disability company, then the following 4 weeks are paid at 80%, so basically I have to go back to work 6 weeks after my baby is born Chat Icon

kinda sucks but I have no choice

They said I cannot use the other 3 weeks of vacation time I will have by the end of 2007 until I accrue it........

Re: Got the info about my maternity leave policy

you're right, I am okay with it, don't have much of a choice. I cannot afford to be out of work with no pay so I guess it is what it is Chat Icon

Re: Got the info about my maternity leave policy

I get 12 weeks unpaid. I'm taking them all! But 6 of those weeks I get $500/week under disability.

But I took this job because after I come back I can work from home 2 days a week....Chat Icon

Re: Got the info about my maternity leave policy

I just thought of another question, what if I go lets say 2 weeks late, would that mean that I only have 4 weeks of time off post partum?

I do not want to sit at home for 4 weeks before the baby is born.....that seems wierd to me. Maybe I can have my doctor say my due date is 2 weeks later than it is? Is that illegal? Chat Icon

the 6 weeks is for your recovery after the actual birth - I don't think that would change. if you went late, I would assume you would not get paid for anything over those 2 weeks. I think you get paid for 8 weeks total, regardless of when they occur.

As long as I get 6 weeks after the birth, that is fine. I would rather take the 2 weeks unpaid before the baby is born, if h/she decides to make a late entrance

Thanks

Re: Got the info about my maternity leave policy

Sorry it's not as good as you expected, but it is much better than lots of people. I got nothing before DD was born and 8 weeks of disability after @ $215 a week!!! That was from NYS disability -- it is the maximum that they pay, if you can believe that!!! After that horrendous pay, I am on leave without pay. That has been since the middle of June. I'm going back in Sept. because we just can't afford for me to be out of work any longer (oh, and my medical insurance went up to $1300 a month in Aug since I am out of FMLA). It really stinks not to be independently wealthy, doesn't it???

Re: Got the info about my maternity leave policy

You do NOT have to stop 2 weeks before your due date...will they let you tag some time onto the end of your leave instead?
You may find that taking 2-3 more unpaid is okay because you are saving money on the commute and daycare and you may be able to save a bit before the baby comes.
Hugs.

Re: Got the info about my maternity leave policy

My company also lets us go out 2 week before our due date. With my daughter I was a week late, so I got 3 weeks paid, then my six week paid started when I gave birth.

ETA: I think they have this policy to hopefully avoid going into labor at work.
