I've never leased but I wanted to wish you luck!!
When I was car shopping with DH, I had one salesman not even acknowlege me, even when I told him the car was for me and I was buying it! He just kept talking to DH like I wasn't there.
Good luck sweetie!
i know i just dont have the sizable down payment to buy a car. people say leasing is bad but until I can afford to buy a car, this works for me.

Kristi,
I bought the membership to http://www.leaseguide.com/. Using that, I then got quotes from Carsdirect.com and eneded up leasing my Altima through them. I was very pleased.

Re: dont want 2 get taken advantage of when I go 2 lease my next car so my ?? is
I looked at the leaguide website and then I decided to go through CarsDirect after I had done all my test drives. They had a rep call me and the guy did all the work and came back with quotes for three different cars, and I ended up choosing the best deal. They were very helpful.
The whole deal took about three weeks. I'll probably do it again when my lease is up next year.

if you could ask your husband, how much can they truly negotiate the sticker price of a car? thats what I keep hearing- negotiate the sticker price.....
I asked my DH, who is a car salesman, and he said it really depends on the car. Is it a car that there's not a lot of? Is it a new model? Is it in high demand, and not high supply? He said those all factor in.
ETA: He said to find out before you negotiate if there are any rebates on the car. That should be one of the 1st questions that you ask. Also, there's 7% of profit built into every car, so have the dealer work from there.

Re: dont want 2 get taken advantage of when I go 2 lease my next car so my ?? is
I've leased quite a few cars. Start with edmunds.com. Here you can find out the invoice price of the car and any incentives the dealer is offering..I always negotiate at least $500 below invoice. They will still make a few hundred and I paid no way near sticker price.
I put only taxes, reg and first month up front. No money down.
Don't negotiate off of monthly payment. This is a sure fire way to get ripped off.

I never put any money down on a lease (not even taxes, tags etc.).
I have a 2004 pathfinder and I pay $419 a month with everything in the payment.

Re: dont want 2 get taken advantage of when I go 2 lease my next car so my ?? is
Check out Edmunds.com and Kelly Blue Book(KBB.com) we used this and so have a few friends and we got a good deal. It will tell you what the MSRP, and then what people in your area are paying, etc.. They also give tips on what to do when buying a car.
We were able to use that to negotiate then work it down considerably from that - be prepared to go to more than one dealer and have no qualms about walking out if they won't give you want you want. We paid less than many other people for the car we wanted.
Yeah not sure about the rental car thing mentioned above. The places we bought from have dealship rental cars that they give you complimentary if they have your car for more than a day. I have never paid to rent a car while mine was at the dealship in service.

Read all of the financing information (interest rate etc). If you aren't familiar with it I would recommend bringing someone who is. I know someone who is paying more for lease then they would if they financed it. Don't let them just talk about payments.

Re: dont want 2 get taken advantage of when I go 2 lease my next car so my ?? is
My dh says that you have to negotiate the car buying price first and then you tell them you want to lease.
I am leasing an Acura MDX - no money down- only paid taxes , tiltles & tags upfront ( 2250? including 1st month payment)
12000 miles a year 399 a month- for 36 months I added some stuff to the car so now my payments are 420- I was going to pay for the addons upfront but my husband was like no, just add it onto the lease.
Also, if you like a specific type of car, price the different dealers for the type in different locations.
We went to Acura in queens and Acura in Manhattan. The one in the city gave us a better deal. We found that to be true with another known brand of car.
Shop around & good luck

You can ask to see the invoice price. That is what the dealer pays for the car, not including transport etc. If you ask for it they HAVE to show it to you. That gives a much better place for you to work up to an agreeable price. Also, get every offer (including free things thrown in) in writing and go to another dealership to meet/beat your offers so far.

Yes, but keep in mind, every $1000 down will translate to $20 less per month in payments at 100%. If you roll in costs that are over the MSPR, then your rate will get higher.

be prepared to walk away- and don't act like you want the car
i agree. play hardball and DON'T let them intimidate you . tell them what you WANT and don't wait for them to rope you w/ their pitch. i always ask, "what is the best you can do" and of course it is never good enough, so i lowball it and we take it from there.
