dormer extension drawings, need opinions please
so I finally uploaded a pic of our dormer extension drawings.....this needs some serious tweaking and I wanted to get ideas/opinions.
I think the master bedroom is a little too boxy, I want more of a rectangular room. I think the architect situated it the way he did b/c we had said we'd prefer to have our bedroom at the back of the house if possible (which is where he put it), the master closets are on the other side of the staircase, which would separate the master suite. Now I'm wondering if we should move the master bedroom to the front of house?
I was considering removing the master bath all together, but DH wants to keep it in....but I would definitely try to save space by maybe doing a stand up shower instead of a tub...
any opinions would be a huge help, I'm getting sick of looking at this lol
You can't see the dimensions clearly in the pic, so here they are: -master bedroom (top right): 14'1 x 11'3 -master closet: 10'4 x 9'8 (narrows a bit by the staircase) -master bath: 10'5 x 7'9 -2nd bath: 10'5 x 5'7 -bottom left bedroom (front of house): 8' x 20'3 (long & awkward! lol) -adjoining closet to long/narrow Bdrm (below master closet on the left) : 7'1 x 5'9 -bottom right bedroom (front): 16'5 x 10'3
I should also mention, he has the existing staircase landing/hallway staying the same as existing (w/ a hard turn at the landing into the hall), we'd rather have the hall extend straight ahead of the staircase (i.e. where the linen closet is currently shown, ideally would be the new hall). so that would give 4' back to the right side of the drawings.
so what would you change? thanks for any suggestions!!
***Ok I added an idea below.....I just wonder if its possible to move the bathroom.

The bedroom is too narrow. I would take some of the master bedroom and give it to that narrow bedroom.

Re: dormer extension drawings, need opinions please
Also where are the closets for the other two bedrooms that don't have walk in closets?

oops sorry forgot to list that w/ dimensions, the long narrow bedroom has a closet (walk in as well it looks like by the size) but I don't see closets drawn out for the other one)...I'll edit above w/ the dimensions, thanks for pointing out!

I think you're referring to bedroom #2.....the master bedroom is shown at the top right of the drawings.....I agree, it's out of whack the size of the bedrooms, the 8' room needs to be wider.

Yes i see the one closet now. I am going through the same thing right now. Design on a dormer. You second guess every little detail.
I would definitely make the one bedroom wider. 8 feet plus is not wide enough. I'd go minimum 10 feet.

while i think the one bedroom is too narrow I'm not sure you can make it wider... you can't take from the bedroom next to it cause then there is no room for a door into that bedroom unless you change the bathrooms.
I have a 7' wide bedroom now and while it is narrow it fits a twin with plenty of room to walk by so 8' might not be so bad.
I feel like there are extra lines...so I can't really follow what the arch is completely doing. In the narrow bedroom it look like there are 2 doors into closet area...door into door into closet.

yes he drew in the existing closet door and then drew the 2nd closet......but since he listed it as 5'9 on that side of the drawing, I'm assuming he's making that one a walk in too.
eta: thanks for your info on having a 7' bedroom......I was thinking for a kids room it probably wouldn't be that bad, just thinking when they get older, it might be more of an awkward layout.....

I'd definitely find room to put your laundry room up there. It was the best move we made - no more laundry in the basement - much easier this way.

Re: dormer extension drawings, need opinions please
Ok here's one possiblity:
what if I took bathroom #2 (not master bath) and put where the closet for bdrm # 2 is shown, if I Put that bathroom next to the staircase, then I could move down the master bathroom, and I think then the master bedroom would be almost 18' x 14'1.......which is more along the lines of how big I'd want our bedroom (that's also making the master bath almost 2 feet smaller (should be ok if we do a stand up shower instead of tub).
Then where the linen closet is shown, I'd give back 2' of that space below (drawn in as bdrm #3) to narrow bdrm #2, making that 10' instead of 8' (and since bthroom # 2 is going where the closets were in this space, the room would now be more like 10'x13' (not including the closet space) instead of 8'x20'
Bdrm # 3 would be more like 14' x 10' since some space would be given to the narrow bedroom. I'd also ask the architect to draw in closet space in that bedroom.
so it might be hard to envision all that...but what do you think?
In making that work I'd have to confirm we can actually move a bathroom on the other side of the house since our pipes are currently on the side wher he put the bathrooms.

my DH said the same thing...I think we're going to see where we can put it once we figure out the narrow bedroom situation and somehow make the master a little bigger. this is hurting my brain all the possibilities! lol it would definitely be awesome not trekking down to the basement for laundry, especially when we have kids!
