Dr. visit and sonogram this am

I saw Dr. Rosenfeld this morning armed with my charts and a sheet of questions. He gave me all the time I needed to ask and he answered everything clearly.

He told me the reason for my sonogram on day 11 was to get a more accurate picture of when I will ovulate and according to my sonogram, it looks like one could hatch momentarily. Ironically, the OPK I took this morning did not pick it up so I am glad I went in. He wants me to come in tomorrow for an IUI/sonogram because the egg looks very mature and he doesn't want me to miss it. They will do another sonogram to let me know if I should come back for a second IUI for this cycle. Dr. Chu will be doing the IUI.

When I asked him about medication, he said by virtue of my age (37 this summer) that it will simply take a long time. He doesn't like to put women my age on Clomid because it won't change things much. If anything, he would do injectables, but mentioned that if it didnt work, I may end up skipping a cycle because of them.

He said again, that other than my cervical stenosis, everything is in good working condition and that I may just have to wait. The chances of conception for me at my age are 5-10% so it is basically a waiting game. If after 6 months of IUIs, there is nothing doing, we will look more towards other options, but I think that it would be a little premature to think about IVF at this point. I have to be patient.

After today's visit, i am much more hopeful. I feel good!

Thanks ladies. When I showed him my charts, he liked what he saw - said they were beautiful. I asked him if he wanted to hang them in his office. He politely declined.

Thanks! This just goes to show that relying on OPKs may not be a good thing for me. He was surprised that I did not get a positive this am based on what he saw. He pointed out the mature egg and said I needed to come back. My last cycle was one day shorter (27 days) so maybe that has something to do with why I think I may be ovulating earlier.

I had planned to take off on Monday and Tuesday because I thought I would not be able to schedule IUIs and go to work. It is the last week for us and generally NOT a good time to take off. But it seems I will be able to go and save those days for other appointments. I was able to be scheduled for a weekend (which I got the impression is usually first come/first serve) because I was good to go.

I truly feel excited. I know it may take a long time, but I feel better about things lately.

I went to visit a friend in the hospital who had a baby and after seeing all of the little ones in the nursery, I just felt ready. Now is the time. Now I just have to pray that I got my mom's "Over 36 and Pregnant" gene and hope for the best. She had two pregnancies over 36.

I reiterated to Dr. R how Mom said "All your father had to do was BLINK in my direction and I was pregnant." Then the doctor asked me if DH blinks . I actually had fun today - I needed to smile!

Leslie that sounds wonderful! Actually OPK's did not work for me last time. I finally got pg when they gave me the trigger shot to O and went in the next 2 days for IUI!

I had the IUI with Dr. Chu this morning and again, there was no problem getting the catheter in so my cervix is open and ready for business yet again. That pleased me to no end. Just this morning, I got the positive on the OPK and when she did the songram after the IUI, Dr. Chu was able to see that I had not yet ovulated. So I am going back a second time and Dr. Cohen will do the IUI tomorrow.
