Drinking more water & weight gain?

About two weeks ago, I started increasing my water intake (going from one to about 3-4 Poland Spring bottles a day). I am still keeping the same diet and workout schedule. In this time frame, I have put on about 2-3 pounds and feel bloated more often. Are these side effects of the extra water I’m consuming? Will I eventually lose the weight and if so, how long does it typically take? Please share your insight!

TIA

I don't think that drinking more water should cause weight gain; if anything, the opposite! I think it would only be an issue if you were weighing yourself right after chugging a lot of water.

Do you weigh yourself at the same time of day -- like first thing in the morning -- all the time?

But honestly - 2-3 lbs over 2 weeks could be normal weight fluctuation. If the scale keeps going up, I would look into it more, but if sometimes you are down a lb and then back up a lb and it's fluctuating, I would think it could be normal variations in eating habits (you have a party one day or a big dinner) and your body (hormonal changes, bathroom habits, etc.).

Edited to remove questions about your eating and exercise habits, since you said they remain the same (I didn't see that at first!)

During the week, I weigh myself when I get home from work (about 6 pm) and I have noticed a gain even though I haven't changed my diet/exercise. There have been times in the past when I would see a gain of 1-2 pounds but it would only be temporary. Now the scale is not budging!

I like to weigh myself first thing in the morning. I feel like when you weigh yourself after the day you have the weight of breakfast and lunch, water, and what not in you that is adding to your body weight so it's not a true weight reading...kwim?

You are totally right. My thinking is as long as I'm eating the same thing every day, my weight shouldn't fluctuate that much even though I'm weighing myself at the end of the day. Today I stepped on the sccale in the a.m. (rare occurence) and my weight was just as high as my 6 p.m. reading. Chat Icon

I always weight a couple of pounds more few days before I get my period. It could be hormonal and temporary gain.
