Driver License Renewal.... which location ??
Ok, so I'm slacking and my birthday/driver's license expires in less than 2 weeks. I wear contacts/glasses, so I called my eyedoctor to see about getting the vision form filled out so I can just renew through the mail or online, and it's been over a year since I saw the eyedoctor (May 2009), so I need to go in for another exam  He won't fill my form in for me!
So now I have to head to the DMV one day to renew.... and I have no sitter for a number of reasons.... Can I realistically expect to be in and out? I need a new picture too as long as I am going through the hassle of going to the DMV.
Which office should I head to? Garden City, Bethpage or Huntington (all are probably equi-distant from where I live)....
I went to Huntington last time I renewed (8 years ago) and at that time I was there like 2 hours, but I was also changing my name to my married name and fighting with everyone there

It's a lot faster. I went to the one in Manhattan & I think I waited maybe 15 minutes.
On LI, I'd think it was quicker.

If you can avoid going at lunchtime & have the forms filled out ahead of time, it will speed things up.
I did this in Manhattan recently mid-day & it took me about 40 minutes.
I went on line to see what line to go on, then waited on the driver's licence line (with my form ready to go) and then they took a new picture, and I got a number & had to wait to be called for the eye test.
I don't live on LI anymore, but I have heard the Bethpage office is fairly efficient.

I might just hit the Bethpage one in early morning. And treat my kids to Chili's for lunch if they behave!
How is parking at Bethpage??

the one in garden city is the busiest one in nassau- and because of budget cuts they have a hiring freeze but many open positions- I would skip that location!

I've always been in and out at huntington. the women took my picture like 6 times and turned the screen around to let me pick the best one! I was in and out so quick I would highly reccoemend it. but don't go first thing in the am or at the lunch hour.

If you already have the restriction for glasses on your license you don't need to go back to the Dr. unless you need to have it amended to take it off.
I would just do it online, they're usually quick about sending it out and they give you a confirmation that you did it so just carry that with you until you get the new card in the mail.
Only time you HAVE to go to a DMV office to renew is if you need to make a change, (like adding/removing restricitions, testing, and registrations)

Really? I do have it on my license already, I've always worn glasses. I wouldn't find my way to the car without them
My renewal form says I "am required to pass an eye test to renew my license." An MV-619R form must be presented with your renewal.
In any case, I look nothing like my picture on my license since I grew out my bangs, so I want a new picture anyway!

You don't have to pay for a new title, the lien should be cleared in the system, just attach it to your title and give over to the new person if you ever sell your car.

I got the same form. There was no indication it didn't apply if you wore glasses & the license already stated that (as mine did.)

Thats what I did when I paid off my car and got my lien release letter. Just attached it to my title and signed it over to the seller when I sold it!

I don't have to go? We have no plans on selling the car, just paid it off...that's great news if it's true! I actually checked the system and it said there was no lien...thanks and sorry to have hijacked your thread-good luck renewing your license!
