Driving to Hilton Head with an almost 11 month old...
How the heck to I make this happen? Those who have taken a long carride with a baby, how do you split it up? Do you leave at night or early morning?
DD is pretty good in the car, we've driven 4 hours a bunch of times and she's been okay but this is a considerably longer trip. I need tips please!

We haven't gone on a road trip that far but for the ones we have gone on, leaving at night seemed to work out the best for us.
ETA: I love Hilton Head! Have fun!

funny you should post. . .in August, we'll be driving to Hilton Head with Joey (who will be 9 months at the time)
We plan on driving through the night. Hoping he sleeps like it's bedtime ::fingers crossed:: once morning hits, we'll probably have to stop every 2 hours or so I'm guessing maybe less, maybe more. I am bring a DVD player and mickey mouse.

ITA... drive through the night! We drove to Camp Lejeune with DD and it was a success.

Re: Driving to Hilton Head with an almost 11 month old...
We have driven to Florida many times with DD from when she was only 7 months...then with my son too, his first trip was when he was 7 month too and DD was 26 months. Leave at about 6 or 7pm, this way DC will sleep through the night. This has always worked for us. We never stop...Kids are actually harder now that they are a bit older.

Re: Driving to Hilton Head with an almost 11 month old...
We just drove to Richmond, VA last weekend. DS is just 13 months old. He did great. We had toys which he played with, Scout, books, his juice cup and etc... He isn't a big car sleeper so we left in the morning at 7 am once he was up and stopped to feed him breakfast and lunch. He didn't sleep much in the car but I didn't expect him too and he was great. I would bring lots of toys and stuff and stop a few times. Good luck!

Re: Driving to Hilton Head with an almost 11 month old...
Weve done it, all the way to HH when DS was exactly 11 months old too! We drove straight through, all 17 hours. We left about 2 hours before bedtime, just after rush hour. He fell asleep about 3 hours into the ride, which wasnt so bad. We just brought a lot of toys and books and a portable DVD player. After he fell asleep, he slept for about 7 hours (his normal night). He woke up for brief periods in between though.
Once it was morning, we stopped for breakfast, for a long sit down breakfast at a restaurant so he could get out and stretch and run around. That hour or so break does WONDERS for them. We then made frequent rest stop stops, so he could stretch. Took a long lunch stop, same for dinner. He also napped at his regular nap time.
The portable DVD players with Elmo and baby einsten, little people DVDs was a LIFE SAVER!
Honestly, I was expecting it to be so much worse than it was. I bet she'll surprise you! We've since done it again with him at just shy of 2 and are probably going to do it again next year (we go every other year and stay in shipyard).
The only advice I have, is to make sure your get a small childs neck pillow. Poor DS head was falling forward and bobbing all over the place which kept waking him up.

Re: Driving to Hilton Head with an almost 11 month old...
Thank you all ladies for the great advice!
I figured that leaving at bedtime would be best but I'm not thrilled about driving through the night, espeically since I'll be doing the majority of the driving
We are staying at my parent's timeshare - not sure where it is because I've never been before.
