Driving to Orlando
We're doing the Disney cruise in May 2014 and we are thinking about driving there to save money. It's a total of 6 of us. 3 kids with ages of 7, 4, and 1. Am I crazy??? Flying will cost us $1300. If we drive, we would take our Honda Pilot and stop for a night. And I have to confess, I hate being in cars for long period of time but I would make do if I'm saving a lot. So how bad, long is it?

Driving to Orlando
When we drove to Orlando, it was just me and DH. It took us awhile because we stopped to visit my cousins, who lived in Asheville, NC so it added about 3 hours onto our trip. I didn't think it was that bad.
We just drove to Hilton Head, SC with DS about a month ago. It was 15 hours. We made a lot of stops, packed a ton of snacks, and put on his favorite CD's in the car. Driving down was rough because DS was getting restless toward the end, but I rode with him in the backseat on the way back and it was much better.
I didn't like being in cars for long periods of time until we started taking these long road trips. Just make sure you pack a TON of activities for the kids. I thought I packed enough and DS was bored by the end.

Re: Driving to Orlando
We are doing the Disney cruise too in May!!!! And we keep going back and forth as to drive or fly!!! 5 tickets are crazy !! But for our own sanity if the price drops I may just suck it up!! I know my DH really doesn't want to drive!! But he also doesn't want to spend 1500 on airfare!!

Driving to Orlando
Couldn't pay me to sit in the car that long. I would buy the plane tickets.

Same. I would rather not go than drive.

Re: Driving to Orlando
If you leave ny at 4 in the morning, you should be there by midnight if you move minimize time at rest stops.
We do the drive to florida every year. Orlando is easy, but miami is torture. Its well worth saving the money to me.
I buy some new coloring supplies and snacks for kids. They keep a bottle of water near them and snacks and activities are reachable. We also use dvds, kindles, ipods...and when we want to get somewhere fast the kids eat in the car. This keeps them busy for a while too. MY kids love to drive even more than flying and they have done both.
