Pros/Cons anyone?

I found two cribs that I like, one has a drop down side and one is stationary and I'm not sure which one to get.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I am getting a drop down, they seem MUCH more convenient. You do not have to reach all the way into the crib to get the baby

I was thinking the same thing but last night at the store the guy who works there was saying he went with the stationary because he was afraid of the moving parts and the baby, as it got older, shaking the side and maybe ruining the track....

But you're right it does seem a bit more convienent...they both look good, but drop down may be better for us.

I thought i would have rather had the drop down and asked my sister her opinion. She has a drop down and said she never really used it because when the baby was sleeping and she was placing her in the crib the noise from lowering the side was loud and would wake up the baby so she would lean over and put her in anyway. We went with the stationary crib partly due to her advice and I liked the look better

Re: Drop Down or Stationary Crib

i couldn't do without the drop-down side. I am only 5'2 and after we lowered the mattress the first time, I wouldn't be able to use the crib if it wasn't for the drop down feature.

I know some people do without it but they are all relatively tall. DH actually never has to lower the side, but he is 5'9...

So, my advice, if you are lower or avarage hight, get the drop-down!!!

We are looking at the round crib.. I have no idea if it is drop-down or stationary.Chat Icon

ETA: I guess I never thought of it. DH is 5'11" & I am 5' 8". I guess we will be ok if it is stationary?Chat Icon

I'm 5'7 so I don't think the stationary would be a problem, but I think I'm liking the drop down one better and I'm gonna go with that one.

thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Re: Drop Down or Stationary Crib

i'm 5'3'' and i have no issue with my height at all, DD has a stationery crib.

I like the stationery cribs better, they seem more sturdy and less flimsy, i also like how they look much more. I was worried about pinch points with the drop down side, and we tried tons of drop down sides in the stores and did it with one hand like we had the baby in the other, and we couldn't do it, plus the point about the noise too, that's a good point!

I am 5'8" and it is a little hard for me to even reach down when the mattress is all the way down

DROP DOWN.

My mother had one for me when I was a baby...she used the same crib 10 years later for my sister...the sides still required her to push the hidden under the bed lever and lift up the side she wanted to lower in order to lower all those years later. With my first, I had drop down sides as well...would NEVER NOT have them.

Drop down. My SIL had the stationary and both my mom and SIL hated the fact that once they had to drop the mattress it was nearly impossible to get a sleeping baby up, over and down.

Plus I love the look of the classic crib - mine is very sturdy and well made.

Re: Drop Down or Stationary Crib

We ordered the drop down as well. I wouldn't have minded the stationary crib but I'm only 5'1" and they just don't make these things for short folk like myself Chat Icon .

Re: Drop Down or Stationary Crib

I'm 5'4. I have the drop-down, but have never utilized that feature. I like my crib, so I'm not upset about it.

I have absolutely no difficulty putting her down even in the lowest mattress setting. Now that I'm pregnant, it's a bit of a PITA to tuck the blanket in on the far side, but that's about it.

When the mattress is on the lowest setting, by that time the baby is most likely sitting up or even standing...so getting them out isn't that difficult.
