Dry and peeling skin on a newborn?
His skin is very dry and peeling on his hands...should I put lotion on it or just leave it alone. It looks terrible.

He's brand new right? My ds had that its just from swimming around in fluid for 40 weeks (like our skin after a long bath!) Just use a little lotion, it'll stop in a few weeks!

Re: Dry and peeling skin on a newborn?
DD's skin is dry and peeling too, it breaks DH & mine heart to see it. But the ped said it's normal, esp. since DD was 1 week past due. Ped did say if we want we can put a little white/no fragrance lotion on DD, so we are using Aveeno baby cream on her body, not on the hands, because she might put them in her mouth.

Yes this is very normal according to my ped. It breaks my heart as well because i know when my hands and feet look like this mine hurt. My ped said we could use lotion as well but it is gonna continue to happen for a while. Now my DS nose is in the peeling process. Ped. said they are going to shed their whole outer layer of skin at some point.

DD was 9 days late and lookedl like a lizard when she came out!!!!
The ped actually said NOT to use lotion bc it can clog their pores when they are first born. I just started using a teeny bit of lotion now at 5 weeks.
