DS has the fever virus

DS was ok this morning. I took him out to run a few errands and we wound up in Target. I asked him what he wanted for lunch and he said nothing, which is not quite like him. So I grabbed a pizza and we went home. i asked him again if he wanted to eat and he said he wanted to nap. He went down for his nap and slept for two hours. As soon as I went to pick him up, I could feel the heat through his clothes. He had 100.1 on the ear thermometer which means it was probably closer to 102. I took him to the Dr. and he thinks that he has the fever bug that's been going around. Ok, kids get sick. What are you gooing to do.
But here's the problem- we're supposed to leave for Florida on Saturday afternoon. The Dr. said to wait and see how he is tomorrow. If the fever breaks then we should leave as planned. If not, I will have to change our flight to either Sunday or Monday. It will be an additional $306. Not fantastic, but not that bad either.
For anyone of you whose children have had this recently, how long did it last? I'm just trying to gage what to expect. I will have to change our flights either tomorrow, or very early on Saturday.

Update Friday am- After I tucked DS in (with a very low fever), we heard him crying about a half hour later. We went in and he had thrown up all over. We cleaned him up and cleaned up his room and brought him into our room. His fever had come back. We tried to give him Tylenol, but as soon as he swallowed, it came right back up and he threw up again. We let him relax for a little and then tried to give him Motrin. Same thing happened as soon as he swallowed. Again we let him relax and I gave him rectal Tylenol. He slept pretty peacefully through the night, but he had a VERY high temp. It registered 102.9 on the ear, which means it was a little higher even.
He seems fine today. A very low grade fever, but he had breakfast and is playing and in normal spirits. I'll see how the day progresses.

Re: DS has the fever virus

Both DC had it within the past few weeks (I would still go to the doc if you can though because my DS now has strep! Chat Icon). It lasted about 24 hours but see how he is feeling tomorrow. You don't want to be on a plane full of otherwise healthy people if you DS is sick Chat Icon

Re: DS has the fever virus

We went to the Dr. already today and aside from the fever he gaive him a clean bill of health- nothing wrong in his chest, ears or throat. DS is actually eating right now for the first time since cereal this morning. He had some noodles, some Goldfish, and he's now on his second ice pop. Hopefully this will be a 24 hour thing. I really don't want to risk him getting sicker or him infecting anyone else. I definitely won't fly with him if he still has a fever.

Re: DS has the fever virus

my dd just had something like this....fever with no visible signs. just didnt eat and mostly slept for about 1 week.but the fever broke after 4 days. they said it may have been the start of coxsackie because the dr said she saw a possible blister in her mouth.but they said to bring her back if the fever didnt break because it should break within 4 days or it could be something more severe. so im assuming they want you to play it safe. im sure its fine. its so hard to tell. go with your gut.

Re: DS has the fever virus

My DD had it recently and it was up and down over the course of a weekend, with no other symptoms. Later that week it turned into a cold and ear infection.

Re: DS has the fever virus

My DS had it. Started this past Sat with a 102. He still had about 101 on Monday. I would say he was much better by Tuesday and is completely fine today.
