DS no longer wants to eat during day - only in middle of night - going crazy!! Help!!!

DS (3 months old) started STTN a few weeks ago. That lasted about a week or so and then we went to NY and his schedule was shot. I figured, when we got back, he'd get back on schedule. He started waking up starving in middle of night to eat. I'm being told this is 3 month growth spurt. So, now he's been waking up in middle of night (once) and literally downing a 6 oz bottle in 5 minutes BUT for the past few days he BARELY wants to eat during the day. He will spit the nipple out of his mouth, the formula out, etc.
I just struggled to get 2 oz into him for half an hour. He's been doing this, like I said, for the past few days and I'm SURE it's contributing to him being starving in the middle of the night.
He's on Elecare and the GI has us putting Splenda in it because it tastes bad but he's been on it a few weeks now and has gotten used to it.
What could be happening? Why is this happening? What can we do? Has anyone gone through this????

Thanks!!!

my DD did this - at first, she was actually hungry at night (prob during the growth spurt), but then she kept doing it but only took a couple of ounces so we just dropped it and fought to rock her back to sleep. it was not easy but i knew she was just getting used to it and not actually hungry. during the day, two things were happening - due to the growth spurt, her reflux meds needed to be adjusted, which is probably why she didn't want to eat - i guess at night, they're so tired and hungry, they just fall right back asleep; once that was resolved, she still wasn't eating great and dropped a daytime bottle - we were already only at 5 bottles, so now we're down to 4. given the drop, i increased the amount and give them to her every 4 hours and with 7 oz, which she doesn't always finish but usually does or gets close - she didn't at first but now she's better. i think she was just readjusting her schedule and it took me awhile to catch on. does your ds have reflux too? maybe he outgrew his meds or else he's just readjusting his schedule a bit.

ETA: DD is on Alimentum btw. also, the other thing it could mean is that it's time to go up a size on the nipple - when dd was playing with it instead of eating, i tried this and that helped then. just another thought.

He does have reflux - his zantac was just adjusted on Monday, so that's new. We changed nipples about a week ago - went to cereal cut because he has been getting oatmeal in his bottles for a while now. I couldn't find cereal cut for our bottles so I was doing it myself for a while, but finally found out Dr. Brown's fit our bottles. So, he's on the new nipples too. Ugh - I just don't know what to do. I have been trying to stave off the feeding in the middle of the night - paci, rock back to sleep, he'll fall asleep for a few minutes and just wake back up screaming for food. I know he's hungry because, as I said, he'll kill the bottle in minutes. Tried to avoid the bottle two nights ago and was up with him back and forth between 1-4Chat Icon my first day of work!
I just don't know what's going on with him and why this is happening!

you may just have to ride it out - i couldn't get dd to drop the nighttime bottle until a few days after the reflux meds adjustment because she wouldn't eat during the day until then. that's when her nighttime feeding became only a couple of ounces too. i think it takes a little bit for the meds to work, esp if they're getting spit out, like with my dd Chat Icon Chat Icon i don't know if you're having the same problem, but we switched to axid, which is supposed to be bubble-gum flavored, because i was concerned that dd was not getting enough of her zantac and asked the ped if there was anything that tasted better. she said axid is the same but for the taste. dd still spits some out but it's less. i really don't understand how she does it - today, she let it pool in the back of her throat - i thought she had swallowed it and then she catapulted it Chat Icon i couldn't believe it, tricky little thing.
