What did you eat the day/night before ?
your glucose test? I have to go take my one hour this week and I was told just not to eat anything after midnight by my doctor. But of course a million of people are telling me what I should or should not eat the day/night before the test. What should I eat and what should I avoid if anything?

Re: What did you eat the day/night before ?
I am literally sitting in the dr's office. Just drank the stuff for my test and am waiting for the hour to pass so they can take my blood. My dr didn't have me fast. She also told me to just eat normal to get the most accurate result.

Re: What did you eat the day/night before ?
My midwife told me to eat the morning of and to have a regular breakfast with some protein and some carbs. I had 2 egg whites on a light bagel (it was small) the morning of the test.

Re: What did you eat the day/night before ?
I was told not to fast- regardless of what the lab trie to tell me. So I ate a breakfast of all protein. 2 hard boiled eggs and a cheese stick. I didn't eat any sugar or carbs that morning.

I fasted for the one hour (and failed by one point). Last week I took the 3 hour and HAD to fast so for dinner the night before I had scrambled eggs, 1 piece of multigrain toast and some edamame. Should find out the results today or tomorrow.
Good luck!

Re: What did you eat the day/night before ?
My standard answer to this question:
Nothing you eat or don't eat will affect the results of your glucose test.
If you have GD, you have it....
You shouldn't try to "fool" the test anyway, because GD is serious and if you have it, you want to and NEED to know.

Re: What did you eat the day/night before ?
My only concern would be FALSELY skewing the test to positive. And having to do the 3 hour.
For example- if I went in there after eating a bag of Skittles and a large soda and then drank the drink- the sugar in my system would have been much higher than if I just drank the drink. Hence I would expect the numbers to be falsely high due to my sugar bender. (That's an extreme example, but you get the point)
I wasn't looking to trick the test into saying I didn't have GD when I did- (plus I doubt there is a way to do that)but I didn't want to have to go through a 3 hour because I screwed up and went buck wild with sugar and carbs before the 1 hour...and got myself a false positive - if that makes sense.
At least that was just my crazy azz thinking!

you should just eat normally...you want to make sure that you have accurate results. i just wouldn't eat a giant piece of cake or a box of cookies
Good luck!

Totally agree.
I ate normally the day before. I think I had KFC for dinner that night. My appointment was for 7:15am. I didn't have to fast but it turned out that I unintentionally fasted by making the appointment so early and just going to take the test and not eating breakfast.
I passed my test by one point.

ITA! And this is why I asked the question. I do not want to "trick" the test I just want to make sure I don't give my self a positive by the foods I consume the day before. I am a big fruit, veggie and carb addict lately and I just wanted to get a sense of what is "better" to eat rather than loading up on foods that will cause my sugar to skyrocket even before I get that horrible drink in me.

Re: What did you eat the day/night before ?
hmmm....I am trying to remember. Oh, I actually had scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast. It was a friday and I couldnt eat meat.
I personally dont think it matters what you eat the night before. I think the test is designed to catch any problems you may have regardless of what you eat. Try not to stress over it.
ETA: I also had a big piece of cake earlier in the day, don't know if that mattered but I still passed.

Re: What did you eat the day/night before ?
The night before my 1 hour test I had grilled salmon, brown rice, and asparagus. For dessert I had a bowl of strawberries w/ whip cream. I failed even though I had fasted from 9pm on.
The night before my 3 hour test I had a fuji apple salad, chips, and black bean soup from panera. Then I had a reg jello cup with whip cream for dessert. I again fasted from 9pm and passed!
I would just avoid eating anything with too much sugar like ice cream, or a big bowl of fruit the night before. I think those strawberries might have pushed me over the edge the first time, and I kick myself for it.

What I did was just watch the carbs and sugar for 2 days before- nothing crazy...but I usually eat TONS of candy, cookies, carbs. I just watched. And the morning of I made sure to eat- because I was scared of fainiting from fasting. I had 2 hard boiled eggs and a string cheese on my way there. All protein....just in case. I figure if I was going to fail I was going to fail- you can't trick it. But why risk a FALSE positive by eating sugars and fruit like crazy that morning.
