Dual certification questions

I sent my transcript to BOCES to see what I needed to be Early Childhood Certified (I LOVE subbing in Kindergarten, and I'm a Gymboree teacher on the side, so there's no reason I shouldn't have it). I just checked my TEACH account, and they approved everything! So I will be dual certified N-6 in February! Chat Icon Here are my questions though:

-I am a permanant sub right now, and we have three leave replacements opening up in my building in K, 1, and 4. Do I tell my principal now that I am certified? There are three other perm subs in my building, one who is currently doing a leave but she will be done on Dec. 15. How should I approach telling him without seeming desperate for one of the LR's when I don't have the paperwork yet? (they give them to perm. subs in my building)

-How do you get permanant certification if you have two certificates? Would I have to do my video in a 1st grade class even if I'm not teaching 1st grade when I do it? That way I would be covering both the 1-6 cert and the B-2 cert.

TIA!

Re: Dual certification questions

I would def let them know. you can let them know by giving them a copy of your certification to put on file.

what is your certification? Is it provissional or professional? If its provisional you will need to do the video. Now, will you be recieving 2 separate certifications for them (a b-2 and a 1-6)? or is it just one certificate? if its 2 you may have to do 2 videos if not then i dont think it will matter what grade you do it in. If your certification is prfoessional you do not need to do a video.

Re: Dual certification questions

I won't be getting my new certification (Early Childhood Education) until February. I remember last year when I was student teaching that they said NYS only processes and sends out certificates twice a year, so the next one is February 1st. I don't want to wait that long to let my principal know I will be certified, but I don't have anything to show him unless I print out the TEACH online page I see.

I will have two seperate certificates. I got my provisional certification in Childhood Ed. 1-6 last year. So it is not professional yet since I've only been a permanent sub since April.

Re: Dual certification questions

Just tell him it's pending. They will actually contact BOCES or go into the TEACH system to check. It will come up as pending. HTH!

I have two certifications...the first is permanent...but the second can never be - just professional. I did not have to do another video - ONLY the content test
