Re: Duke Rape
I personally would like tothink that these boys would get a chance to defend themselves before being convicted. Who knows what happened BUT as usual the media made them look like criminals already. I am not sure that I believe they werent there at all like I heard yesterday but who knows what happened...

Re: Duke Rape
I am not sure what to think at this point in time. If they did rape her, then they deserve to be punished for the crime. However, if they did not do anything, and the woman is falsly accusing them, then she should be punished.

they will...it is call a trial...
so they will certainly have their say...
But i do think the media is going with the wind.. One minute highlighting incriminating evidence....the next question her...

Re: Duke Rape
I haven't been following this that closely but it's really disturbing that there have been some that automatically question the validity of the claims made by the victim based soley on her being a dancer. Although, for the most part, women who are raped and report the incident are basically victimized all over again throughout the criminal justice process. For this reason, I cannot imagine any woman putting herself though that torture based on false allegations.
I'm not saying that it did happen or didn't happen for that matter, I just think in situations like this, the media can really screw up any hopes of the case being handled properly.

Re: Duke Rape
from what i read today there are certain things that stand out...
1. they took physical evidence and none of it matched any of the players
2. the kid from garden city has already have a history of violence...now i know it could be irrelevant but IMO it is

Re: Duke Rape
I think it's going to be tough to convict them- it's the South, and the woman is a stripper. I think jurors will have a hard time looking past that. I think people in the NY metro area are more open-minded, and even here I think it would be held against the woman. Then again, I think these guys fit the arrogant jock stereotype (not saying that they are, I don't know them obviously) and maybe that will be held against them in court? Who knows?

i agree....rape is hard enough to convict as is...even sometimes with physical evidence...
So based on that alone i think that this isn't going to go anywhere

I'm going to have to read more about this. But, I'm with you, a history of violence doesn't seem irrelevant to me.

I agree with what you're saying but even here in NY a rape victims entire life is brought into question during an investigation and/or trial if it even gets that far. It's just sad because if it did happen, I don't think it'll get that far being who they are and who she is.

Re: Duke Rape
soposely they have "proof" that those 2 boys were at an atm when this took place.. They said this lawyer wouldnt of said that unless he can back it up with proof or he can get into alot of trouble..They think he will be able to provide atm pics from a camera and be able to clear these 2 boys.
