Dutch Oven advice
I am getting a new dutch oven. the one I have is 4 1/2 Qt round. I think I want the same, but Le Creuset has different shapes & sizes... Does anyone have larger than 5 or 5 1/2 Qt?
I seriously doubt I need anything bigger.
Any pros or cons to round v. oval? I imagine oval is not so great on a round stove top

Re: Dutch Oven advice
I'm pretty sure my crock pot is 6 qts, and I fill that sometimes when I am cooking. Sometimes it's not so full, but I know I would want the bigger one. I cook for usually 2 people, but have several recipes that I make for company and need the bigger pot.
As for the oval, I always look at Rachael Rays pots and wonder why they are so good when most of the pot isn't even on the burner. No idea in use, but in looks I always wonder.

Oval is good if you want to do a roast or a chicken. I would buy an oval personally.

Re: Dutch Oven advice
the cast iron ones distribute heat evenly, so shape doesn't matter so much. Also, in a dutch oven you are cooking the food slowly, not depending on the direct heat of the burner like you would with a frying pan. They are also designed to be used in an oven where shape wouldn't matter.
I bought a Rachel Ray one for a gift. It's oval and they love it. I would think a roast would fit in there better than in a round one. Check out Marshall's they carry them sometimes.

Re: Dutch Oven advice
I love le creuset pots. I have a 3 qt and a 7 qt round dutch ovens. the 7 qt is great for making stews for company. (perfect buffet food for large parties ) I actually also use it to make large dishes so DH and I can have leftovers for several days.

Re: Dutch Oven advice
rachel ray pots are oval so when you make pasta it all cooks evenly without having to break it in two.

Re: Dutch Oven advice
I have a 4 1/2 quart round and love it- it's just big enough for recipes for 4-6 people- I get so much use out of it! I would get a round instead of an oval- I feel that the round fits on the burners better.

I have a Le Crueset 8 qt oval dutch oven. I love it! It's great for making sauce.
