what's a dutch oven??
and is one really necessary?

its a heavy cooking pot, usually of cast iron or enamel-on-iron, with a heavy cover.
I have a dutch oven that I make stews and soups in. My soups dont taste any differently made in the dutch over compared to a regular pot.
I do use my dutch oven if my recipe calls for the pot to go into the oven to cook..there are some recipes that need the extra cooking time...and a regular pot can not withstand the heat of an oven.
Dutch ovens are very expensive but I found a seller on Ebay that sells them pretty inexpensive...and lets face it...i dont need the "name" brand dutch oven!!
