DVR Box
my box constantly makes a humming and scratching type of sound. cablevision said it is just the hard drive and that all the boxes do it. however, i spoke to a few people and they said their boxes don't make that kind of noise.
anyone else have this problem w/ their DVR box?

I did have that problem, but it wasn't extremely noticeable. It hould to be very quiet in the room for me to even notice it.

I will here mine kick on once in a while - it sounds like a fan or a motor running. It usually goes off after a few minutes.

How long have you had that box? Does your picture ever freeze up too? It kind of sounds like the hard drive is going to crash!

we just got one the otehr day, its driving DH nuts!
i've got a bunch of friends who can't stand it because its in their bedrooms and the whirring keeps them up at night.

yup, that is me. i got the box about a month ago and again, cablevision said it is normal. yet a have spoke w/ a few other people and they said they don't hear it. i probably hear it more because it is in the bedroom which is a quieter room then the den.

that's normal-- some boxes make more noises than others. In fact, we just got a new one and I notice that more than the others.
