Ear Clear Powder?

I was wondering if anyone had ever used this stuff?

My dog is predisposed to getting ear infections- probably because his floppy, furry ears. But to make things worse, he had a bad ear cleaning experience at his first vet visit years ago. They wouldn't let me be in the room with him and they tried to hold him down and clean his ears forcefully and he flipped. Ever since then he is very hesitant to have his ears touched at all. He lets us touch them, so long as we aren't holding any bottles or tissues or anything in our hands. Chat Icon He's no fool. Cleaning his ears has become an event which takes 4 people to muzzle him and hold him down while the vet cleans his ears. I stumbled across this "Ear Clear Powder" on Amazon.com.

I was wondering if anyone has used it and if it helped at all? His ears are getting itchy again- I can see him shaking his head a lot and scratching at them, so I was considering trying this. I just wanted to see if it was worth it before giving it a shot. TIA!

I have no experience with this powder but I think if you are worried about an infection you should get him some medicated liquid ear cleaner that will get into the canal. The powder might not be enough and if it is going to be difficult to get in there to begin with, you'll want to use something more effective.

Sorry, I probably should've clarified. The powder (or capsules, it comes in both) is mixed in with their food. I couldn't imagine trying to wrestle him everyday to put something in his ears! lol!

Ear Clear Powder?

I would not give this to my dog. There is VERY,VERY little research on herbal treatments in dogs. There is also no regulation of these products. Try to keep his ears dry inside. You can work on training him to let you touch his ears. It will take time but it can be done--Pair him letting you touch his ear with a treat he really likes-

In that case, I definitely wouldn't get it. The only thing that is going to clean up an ear infection would be drops that would go into the ears directly (best way) or possible oral antibiotics? I've always used something that goes into the ear though so I am not sure if there is something oral they can take to clear it up.

Re: Ear Clear Powder?

Thank you. I'm not looking for this to clear up any ear infections. I am looking for something preventative.
