Early Intervention services through school district
Tyler did not requalify for speech in December when he was re-evaluated by Early Intervention but I would like him to get evaluated. Now that he will be 3 and have to go through the school district, who do I contact? Not sure how it works.

In NJ the formal process is that I had to write a letter to the supervisor of special services at our school district explaining that i believe my son has these specific issues and would like to request an evaluation. It is probably similar in NY but I'd call your district to get the information.

I'm in LI and we have to write a letter to the school district and request an evaulation and state why. I would contact your district and ask who the letter should be written to.

I guess it depends on the district. We went to central registration and registered him. While we were there, we requested an eval and they had us fill out some paperwork. I'd contact the central registration office in your district.

When he was in EI they gave me paperwork to fill out but I never did because they tested him and he didnt requalify BUT his speech therapist and my EI coordinator told me not to submit the papers and told me to wait a couple of months and put in for an evaluation through the school district.
DS has a tongue tie (that I should have gotten cut when he was younger ) which will be cut when he has his tonsils and adenoids out. His vocabulary and what not is good, he just isnt very clear with some words and sounds which I think (and the ENT thinks) is from the tongue-tie.

Re: Early Intervention services through school district
what you need to do is call your local elementary school and they will direct you to the appropriate people.
when they reach school age its considered CPSE.
once you talk to the appropriate people in your district they will inform you what you will need to do.

Re: Early Intervention services through school district
Call your local district special education department, usually located with other administrative offices. Most school districts have a website, the sp ed dept number should be located there. Call them directly and inquire about a referral to CPSE and evaluation (s) to address your DS's concerns. They will probably have you officially register with the school district as well. This is what I had to do for our school district. HTH.
