Early walkers
DS is not interested in crawling at all, he scoots to wherever he needs to get but will not crawl, fine. But he wants to walk with us holding his hands all the time! He squirms out of our hands and just constantly wants to walk around the house. While we try our best to give him that experience, I am beginning to worry that it might be too much pressure on his feet since he is not walking by himself yet and I don't want him to be bow legged, but at the same time, for our sanity, we have to walk him around the house. We got him a walker and he is zooming around in that but for about 5 minutes and then wants us to take him out and walk him holding his hands...he is pulling himself up and stands on his own so maybe its not that bad after all. Can you please share your experience of when your DC first began to learn how to walk? Thanks!

Re: Early walkers
My DS was not interested in crawling unless it was to get him somewhere to pull up himself up. Everything happened really fast for him. Once he learned to sit he was pulling up himself up within 2 days and thats all he wanted to do. He had a walker and jumperoo. By 9 1/2 months he took his first steps by himself and walking by 10.

Re: Early walkers
My first DD(she is now 23 months old) crawled at 6 months and took her first steps at 8 1/2 months. By 10 months she could walk across rooms. I never held her hands to help her walk. She would pull up on things and walk while holding on. My now 8 1/2 month old walks around while holding onto things, she also loves crawling. She seems to do things about 1 month later than my first DD (like crawling) so I think she will take her first steps in a month or so.

Re: Early walkers
That's how Steven was. How old is he now? It could still be a few months before he is a "walker" which I consider a walker when they walk more than anything else. Steven didn't really cruise.
Try a toy like this, he might like it much better:
It's made by V-Tech and Steve still plays with it. Michael can push it to help with his balance.
ETS: The top piece goes flat. I'll try to find another pic.

Re: Early walkers
Here is Steven using it. He was 11 months here and walking (but still crawling also).
all of the other push toys were a waste, he barely played with them.

Re: Early walkers
Steph, Michael has this toy at my mom's house! He is not pulling himself up on it yet and we have it set so that he play with it sitting down...I will change it though one he starts to pull himself up on everything.

It's a great toy!
Maybe show him how to do it. Prop him up next to it. OH, and do you know that you can lock the wheels? So he can practice pulling up without it flying out in front of him. Don't ask how I figured that one out

Re: Early walkers
My DS crawled for the first time on his 9 month b'day. A week later he was taking steps back and forth between people. And by his 10th month he was practically running.

Re: Early walkers
My girls were all pulling up either at 9 months or before...yet none of them walked until closer to 14 months....
My eldest daughter could stand herself up in the middle of the living room floor...stand up not pull up...and just stand there and play with a toy..then sit herself down..yet she didnt walk until 14 months.
I think some kids are just more risk takers than others..

Re: Early walkers
DS does the same thing (he does crawl though and has been for a while and that is still his primary means of transportation). When he walks with us we put our hands under his armpits (if that makes sense) - I feel like it gives more support for when he falls (and he always does). I think its fine for their legs and feet...I don't think they would be trying to do it if they couldn't. My DS is 10months though - not sure how old yours is.
Also - not sure if anyone can answer this but - we bought this walking toy - its a push toy - a lion thing - the problem is it moves too fast for him so he really can't learn to walk better with it - does anyone have any suggestions as to something better? Sorry to hijack This is the one i am referring to

I suggest the one I posted above. You can lock the wheels and they can still slide it across the floor.
That was my problem with the other ones, they went too fast.
