Re: Easy overnight recommendations-just us, the parents
Sometimes it takes me 2 hours to get off this Island Where are you coming from?
We like Newport. Or the Roxbury in The Catskills is fun, and you can get a daypass to Mohonk. We've done that a couple of times. The Starlite Motel is also cute up there. You could go to Beacon, the Roundhouse is a good place to stay and there is a cute little mainstreet area down the block. We went to Bannerman Island on a tour nearby, which was pretty cool.
If you gamble, Mohegan is fun. I think it's fun even if you don't. There is a Travelzoo deal on a gorgeous suite right now as their Top 20. We love it there, lots of good dining choices, the suite has a nice bathtub, and we gamble a little.
Anything out east is within your time parameters. Marram in Montauk is nice, Gurney's, Soundview, the Menhaden. All super pricey this time of year though.

I don't gamble and I love going to Mohegan Sun. The ferry ride from the east end beats trying to drive off of Long Island the other way. So relaxing. I love the fine dining options, indoor pool and hot tub, there's a spa, some nice shopping and the hotel itself is beautiful. Great for a quick, easy getaway

Love Greenport! I've seen the Menhaden as previously mentioned wooo would love to stay but big $$
I once stayed in the super duper old and run down Silver Sands LOL!!! Its a throwback motel from the 60s and minimal renovation since then. If you want to feel like time travelling that's your spot! Super kitchy! They do magazine shoots there it's so "retro" LOLLLL

The American Beech hotel in Greenport was nice and walking distance to a lot. What about going to Ocean Beach? You could stay at The Palms for two nights I believe.

Highly recommend Greenport. It is my favorite town. We usually stay at the HarborFront Inn. It is right there in town, and has a pool. Lots of great shops and places to eat. There are also some wineries nearby.
