I think it depends-- but if it's fries-- I usually ask for a side salad instead-- even though I want the fries!
ETA-- if this question was do you order a side-- I usually never do-- but I usually alter whatever the menu item is-- to something more healthful-- it really depends on the restaurant though.

I never get fries, I always ask for a baked potato or rice and usually don't eat it. especially at Diners where the portions they serve could feed a small country

Depends on the type of restaurant. I "try" and order two orders of veggies rather than the carb. (That's usually b/c I housed the bread and 5 appetizers.  )

For the most part, I don't usually order a side order unless it comes with it. I can hardly finish what's on my plate. And if it comes with a side order, Baked Potato will be my choice.

Depends on the entree really - if it's a burger, then I'd get fries, but if it's a steak or a piece of fish or chicken, then usually a baked potato.
I almost never get the rice...don't know why...

I try to stay away from white carbs and I'm 100% Irish so this doesn't go over well at Thanksgiving.
I'll ask if they have a baked sweet potato or I'll order a double green vegetable.

Trying to order veggies more as my side instead of the potato or rice the dish usually comes with. If it's broccoli or cauliflower, then I opt for a baked potato
