Eating question..15 months old..

How does your child feed themselves..and do they let you feed them at all?

I was always the parent that said, "I will NEVER put the food right on the highchair tray!"...But alas, I do it every single day since its the only way she will eat. If I give her a bowl, she just proceeds to throw the bowl on the floor. If I give her a spoon with the bowl, she just plays with the spoon and doesnt eat much. She doesnt let me feed her ANYTHING solid. She will let me give her yogurt but if its solid, she will NOT take it from me. So the food goes on the highchair, so she doesnt starve.

Do most of you feed your kids like this? I bought a suction cup bowl but one tug, and its off the tray and on the floor. I dont see any other way.

Thats how I do it - not sure if it is the right way or not - but that is what we do.

She just now started using her fork and spoon, but still is having difficulties getting the food on the fork, so sometimes I will help her with that

13 months old here and I put it right on the highchair tray, unless I am feeding them something like soup or yogurt (which I feed directly to them).

They "try" and use a spoon at dinnertime, but end up putting their hand in the bowl (which I am holding) and I wind up scratching the whole idea.

I do want to get one of those suction bowl and spoon things, so we'll see how those work.

DS is almost 16 months old and he does the same thing. I can only feed him things like mac n cheese, stuffing, rice, etc. but everything else I put on the high chair and he feeds himself. Like you, if I put a bowl on the high chair he will just dump it all over the floor.

My DD eats with a spoon or fork and she eats out of a bowl or plate. At first, (around 10 months) she would dump the bowl or it'd end up on her head as a hat, but that phase passed quickly lol
