Eating Table Foods..BTDT
DS will eat some table food, but, still prefers baby food. He's going to be 11 Months on Saturday. This morning I was excited because he at some French Toast Sticks. He Won't eat Cheerios. He's OK with puffs. He'll munch on some soft pretzel, piece of a bagel, etc.
When I worked in day care, I had his age group. Every one of them was on table food. We'd cut it up, place it in front of them, and they would all eat, no problem. I don't know why it's not that easy with DS. He LOVES the biter cookies and the cereal bars that Gerber puts out..He will eat anything that is easy for him to hold, however, the whole grasping small pieces and putting into his mouth, he gets it, but, not really.
What else can I do? Did any of you have problems with your DC and table food? Is it possible, he's just not ready? I feel he should have been ready months ago. I just don't know what I am doing wrong.
If you ladies have any other advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. We go to the Ped. for his one year check up next month and I am worried because we are going to discuss this issue and the "We are not crawling yet" issue as well.
TY so much for listening everyone.

Re: Eating Table Foods..BTDT
Ryan was on mostly baby food for nutrition at that age, and I too thought he was behind. All of his classmates were on real table food, eating off the school menu. He picked it up quickly over 12-13 months and now at 15 months only eats baby veggies that I feed him because he wont eat real ones. It took him a while to adjust to the different textures and to WANT to feed himself vs. me doing it for him. Don't worry, I think your DS is still on the young side and will get there in his own time.

Honestly, I would just give it more time. He will get used to eating more finger foods eventually. Just keep offering him the food and one day, he will get it! I promise!

At 9mths DS was refusing baby food and table food
I just kept offering both to him and eventually he took more to the table food. How about you try making pastina and mixing it with his favorite veggie? Or while you are feeding him his baby food put diced up bananas, pasta, cheese or meatball on his try to see if he finger feeds himself.

I am going to make him pastina for lunch today. I have done this in the past and have mixed in his favorite veggie as well.
Thank You for replying ladies.
I just get worried.

I agree. Every baby moves at their own pace.

Re: Eating Table Foods..BTDT
My DS is the same way. He still eats mainly baby food. I guess he's made progress because a month ago he HATED Stage 3 foods with the bits of pasta, rice, etc. in them. Now, he eats every bite! DS loves cut up banana, gerber puffs, still working on the Cheerios thing. He does not seem to like pastina - I've tried it several times - he spits it right out. I've tried tiny pieces of meat which he'sll sometimes eat - but not usually. I have tried waffles and pancakes but he doesn't seem to like this either. And I'm still working on the whole self-feeding things with him. DS can pick up the food but usually just plays with it or it ends up on the floor!
So we're right there with you...and I think our DC are about the same age. I wouldn't be too concerned - just keep trying different things. What your DC didn't like a month ago he might like now. Good luck!

Thank You!!! DS sounds exaclty like your DS. I put cheerios, puffs, whatever in front of him and he thinks it's playtime..However, If it's a biter cookie, or piece of bagel..something long that he can hold, he does fine. He will hold it and into the mouth it goes. I bought chicken fingers for him for dinner. Going to peel off the skin and see what he does. He LOVED pastina at lunch today (mixed with some veggie). Going to keep working at it. Hope you don't mind if I FM you at times and ask how it's going.

Re: Eating Table Foods..BTDT
My DD is 14 months and still struggles with some table food. She has 8 teeth so I am perplexed. Forget about table food meats, they'll stay in her mouth forever. I am just riding it out and trying to be patient.
I think at 11 months, your DS is doing fine. It takes a while for them to adjust to the texture of table food. He'll get there though. Don't worry! Keep feeding him baby food so you know his diet is balanced.

Re: Eating Table Foods..BTDT
Alyssa is 18 mths and honestly, she still has problems with certain table foods, I think I started her late and therefore, it took her a long time to get used to all of the new tastes and textures. She is really just starting to eat more foods.....I still try to sneak in a jarred veggie once in awhile too because she will only eat corn, carots and brocolli as far as table food veggies go....
