EBF and starting cereal - advice needed
I can't figure out when to give DD cereal.
Yesterday morning I gave her both sides and then offered cereal she only took a few bites. Today I did one side then cereal and she ate about a tablespoon and then I gave her the other side before her morning nap.
Can you let me know how you worked in 3 cereal feedings with naps and BF. I want to make sure DD doesn't miss out on any BM she needs but I also want her to be hungry for cereal.
I'm sure this must get easier, but after only 2 days of cereal I already miss how easy EBF really is.

I never figured it out, Josh did not eat till he was almost 1.
I would make the smallest bit each morning, offer it first before he BF, then offered it again once he was done(a new small batch).

Re: EBF and starting cereal - advice needed
I remember when I started I would nurse DD when she woke up and then about an hour or so later I would give her the cereal... then another hour or so later I would BF again...
I started at 4.5 months and she did great, maybe your DD isn't ready?

Jack gets a bottle - but I would always give him the cereal before the bottle so that he wasn't too full to eat it.

I do this also & then I try to give him some more in the evening. DS hardly eats any of it but he loves to try & put the spoon in his mouth. If it's only been 2 days, then you're doing good. Remember, it's not really for them to get full from eating, but it's more the whole experience of it & learning to use their mouths.
You'll get into a schedule that you're comfortable with.

Re: EBF and starting cereal - advice needed
I'm so glad we are doing this together. I just started yesterday with cereal. I fed him one breast when he woke up, because it was soooo full from the overnight, then I pumped the other one. About an hour or so later, he would typically eat the other boob. Instead, I gave him a tablespoon of cereal, with an ounce of breastmilk mixed in.
Once he was finished with the cereal (DS is good because he eats the whole thing, but I was told to stop feeding once he might lose interest, not our case.) I gave him a boob to fill up on. I would continue to feed him boob as normal through the day. Then in the evening (definately not the last meal) I gave him another tablespoon, then topped him off with the boob.
I hope this helps you. BTW: Our doctor only said 2 tablespoons to start, so that's why I only do 2 meals.

Re: EBF and starting cereal - advice needed
I only did one meal to start and I would always give it to her late in the afternoon early evening when I felt my milk supply wasn't the greatest. She really didn't take that much at first...maybe 2-3 spoonfuls...but eventually she got the hang of it and would eat a whole tablespoon. Once she started doing that, I started giving her a little early in the afternoon as wll around lunchtime. At 8 months she still only takes 2 servings of cereal a day.

Re: EBF and starting cereal - advice needed
Our EBF wasn't too interested in food until well after a year. We tried cereal once a day in the late afternoon -early evening, just a tablespoon with my milk in mixed it and it was always after nursing. Didn't care for the cereal much so we went onto vegetables and fruit. Nutritionally all a baby needs is Breast Milk for the 1st year and can even go beyond

Re: EBF and starting cereal - advice needed
She might not be ready. I tried at 4 months and then again about a week later and then the following week and that is when she realized she liked it . I still EBF but like Diana I feed her first and then she tops off on the boob. I would start with breakfest and once you get that down move on to lunch and then dinner. I was also confused because DS was bottle fed so it was easier for me. When DD wakes up she nurses one side sometimes the other but rarely anymore. Then about 2 hours later I give her breakfest which now at 7 months is 4oz of fruit and then 2-3 tablespoons of cereal and then she nurses from the other side (Yes, I know she is a piglet ) then she goes down for her nap.
When she wakes up we play I nurse her then 2 hours later she eats lunch which is either 4oz of a fruit or veggie and then I nurse her again. 2-3 hours after that she nurses again and then goes down for her second nap. She wakes up and then around 6pm she has her dinner which is a veggie with cereal and then I nurse her at 7 for bed.
So this would be a tipcal day for:
7am: nurse 9am: breakfest and then nurse 10am: nap 12:30/1pm: Nurse 3/4pm: lunch and nurse then nap 6pm: dinner 7pm: nurse
It took a while to get this down. HTH

Re: EBF and starting cereal - advice needed
What we do (did) was when DS woke up, I BF and then after his morning nap, I would give the cereal and then BF 2 more times and then it was tiem for dinner (cereal again) and then BF once more before bedtime.
8am - BF 11:30am - cereal 3pm - BF 5pm - BF 7:30pm - cereal 10pm - BF
