EBF infants & bowel movements
How often does your baby have a bowel movement? Mine usually goes once a day and he will skip a day here & there. My son has not gone since wednesday and I am freaking out! He doesn't seem to be in any pain. I just don't get it. He doesn't get anything except for breastmilk.

Re: EBF infants & bowel movements
It is normal for ebf babies to go severeal days without a bowel movement... breast milk is the ultimate nutrition for your childand so their should be little or no waste...
i found that whenever ds was going through and extreme growth spurt be pooped less... everything was going towards growing

Re: EBF infants & bowel movements
We had 48 hours of DS not having a bowel movement this week. I was getting nervous. My ped said if he isn't in pain he is fine. The ped said if DS is in pain to insert the rectal thermometer and move it around to try to loosen the bowels. The ped also stressed the importance of tummy time for the bowels. Fortunately, DS pooped right after I spoke with the ped so I didn't have to do this.
Good luck! I hope he goes soon!

Re: EBF infants & bowel movements
DD poops like 8 times a day, but from what I learned it's common for BF babies to go days without bowel movements. I'd call your pediatrician and see what they say. I hope your DS is able to go soon!

Re: EBF infants & bowel movements
BF babies can go 5-7 days without pooping. DS has gone as long as 5 days. As they get older, they become more efficient at digesting the BM, which is why they're not pooping as often as they did as newborns.

Re: EBF infants & bowel movements
When DS was a newborn he would go like 6 times a day. When he got to 8 weeks he would go once every three days for a few weeks. I was so nervous about it but he was a stage for him. If you are worried, give your ped a call

totally normal for EBF babies....if you get to day 5, I would call your ped just to let them know what's up and if they think you should give anything (prune juice, water, etc)
