Re: eBooks?
I'm happy with the Nook. I wouldn't want and Ipad b/c it's backlit so you have eye strain and glare issues. The nook have library lending while the kindle does not.

Re: eBooks?
I went with a Nook (actually NookColor).
The Nook allows you to borrow books from the library; kindle does not.
The Nook allows you to lend out a book to a friend, the kindle does not.
Note, you can only lend out a book one time. Also, certain books cannot be lent because either the author or publisher doesn't allow it.
You can buy ebooks in MANY places for the Nook; with the Kindle you can only buy from Amazon.
The library lending alone is worth it - imagine how many books you can get on loan from the library. With the kindle, the ONLY way to read is to buy books.
DH bought me the NookColor. It's very nice. I'm very happy with it so far. My friend got a regular Nook and she's very happy with hers. I know the NookColor is a backlit device and can cause eyestrain, but I am lovvvving it. Love the colors, love the touch screen, love that you can have kids books come to life, another cool feature.

Most library support e-lending so you can borrow books in ebook format instead of always having to buy them like you do with the kindle. If I understand correctly the Kindle does not support the format they use for library lending so they don't have that option.

Re: eBooks?
I'm very happy with the newest generation Kindle. I tried the Nook, (my library has e-readers on hand to try before you buy). I felt the Kindle was quicker w/ changing pages and seemed more straight forward. I didn't like the touch screen on the Nook. Also, my Kindle is black, and I like the contrast of the ink on that compared to the Nook which was silver-ish. Also, there are thousands of free books to download for the Kindle. In addition to classics, each month Amazon has a selection of free, .99, and $2.99 books. Also, not all books are $10. Hunger Games, for instance is $5 right now I believe.

Jumping onto the free book for Kindle thing, if you are on Twitter, follow @fstimes I have only been following them for a few days and twice they've come up with lists of free books for Kindle...they show like 10 or so at a clip, but it is easier than going through the free books part of the Kindle store. I've downloaded a number of books that I found there.
