Eczema Question

If your DC has/had eczema, did they ever get it on thier scalp? My DS is 19 months old and the past month he's had an eczema outbreak (confirmed by the ped two weeks ago). The steroid cream really got it under control on his body but the poor kid is scratching his sclap and its really red. I am going to take him back to the dr on friday but just curious if this is a normal place to get eczema??

Re: Eczema Question

the dermatologist confirmed that my dd has eczema, but shes only a bit over 6m and not really on her scalp. but the derm. did tell me i can rub Aquaphor on her scalp also.

eta: i put a little in the front by forehead and makes hair kinda greasy, she doesnt have much hair, so that may be hard tod o with your child since they are older.

Re: Eczema Question

All 3 of my boys had eczema at one point but never on their head. They also never needed the steroid cream, luckily aquaphor worked for us. I hope your dc is feeling better soon Chat Icon

Re: Eczema Question

as an adult with eczema on the scalp what helps to control it is the shampoos that you can buy OTC (neutrogena, selsun, head and shoulders). There is also a prescription one too but that might be too strong. What the derm had me do is alternate using a different "dandruff" shampoo each day (they each have different active ingredients). It def. helps control it. I believe that some of these are safe on children (I know H&S is). Ask your ped. though if you can use them on your child.

Re: Eczema Question

DS has it on his head and I wash his hair with Head and Shoulders (a small drop) after I put a little oil on his head to loosen up the dry skin. It really hasn't been working so I'll ask the ped on his visit next week what to do next. We already use the hydrocortizone on his face and that worked within a day of me putting it on his face.

Re: Eczema Question

Ms DS is much younger. He gets excema on his cheeks and either excema or cradle cap on his scalp. we use aquaphor on both. The hair does get greasy but the stuff usually works so well.
