Re: help with my new kitten
Congrats on the new addition! When I brought my kitten home, the older one was FURIOUS (she still is actually, and its been 6 years). I think the best thing to do is separate them at first, and gradually introduce them to each other...let them get used to each others scents by letting them smell each others belongings. I wouldnt put the baby back in the carrier tonight, but keep her in your room with a litter box and food and water. Will you older cat cry if you close the bedroom door?

I would keep them in separate rooms for now, if possible. Try to socialize them when you are there, so that the older cat does not hurt the baby. I wouldn't keep baby in the carrier, that will probably stress her out. As for the blood in the stool, was it a lot or a little? Sometimes if they push too hard trying to get it out it can bleed a little. If she just came back from the vet with a clean bill of health, I wouldn't worry too much, but if you see it again, or a lot of blood, you should take her back with a stool sample. Best of luck!!

I would take the poop to the vet for them to run a test on, they should be able to tell you if it's anything to worry about. Many kittens have intestinal parasites that can cause bloody stool, but I'm not a vet, so you really want to make sure you have it tested.
You should keep them separated until your older cat gets used to Baby’s smell around, and you can slowly start introducing them with MONITORED visits. My cat took 2 weeks to get used to having a kitten around & now they're best friends. The baby will cry for a while but settle down when you have her separated from you. Usually it’s best to confine them to a small area like a bathroom until they get used to using a little box. It’s important to get them used to the litter box, your vet can give you tips to help you train her! Good Luck!

Re: help with my new kitten. ED: more help please
Our holder cat hated our kitten when we first brought him home.
We kept him in the spare bedroom, and at night we put him in a small dog cage. It was big enough for him, his litter box, food and a blanket. We only did this for a couple of weeks.
While at work, we kept him in the spare bedroom with the door closed. Eventually we started letting them out alone for short periods, and now they roam around the whole house.
As for the blood, he may have some intestinal parasites. Many new kittens have that. It's common, but needs to be treated with medicine. If you have the poop, bring it to the vet so they can test it.
It would be wise to have a separate litter box for the kitten until you are sure she doesn't have any parasites that could spread to your older cat.
Good luck!

Def do that. Take two old towels and get each cat's scent on them. When they are seperated, give each one the other's blanket. This way they are constantly getting used to the scent.
Def keep the kitten in the bathroom.
Please bring a sample of the stool back to vet.
I bumped a post on tnr. Please pass it on to your inlaws. TNR will prevent more kittens from running around their neighborhood.

Re: help with my new kitten. ED: more help please
My cat wasn't crazy about my kitten when I brought him home. I kept them separated for about a week or so (you should do this anyway b/c of illnesses, if any) and at nite the kitten would go in the bathroom. It is important to give the first cat more space in the house. I then put them 2gether and it took about 2-3 months for my cat to accept the kitten. She was depressed for a while b/c she had to share DH and me.
Now they are the best of friends!
