Edited with another related ? For mommies of 12-16 month olds.... or BTDT
Am I the only terrible mommy who still lets her 14 month old have a BOTTLE of milk at night to go to bed? I feel like I am the only mommy out there who didn't FULLY take the bottle away at 12 months... Please tell me I'm not the only one with this.....
Thanks!
Do your DCs that still have the nighttime bottle fall asleep sometimes/all of the time while taking it and then you transfer them? or are they fully awake when they finish their bottles?

Was it really difficult at bedtime? How did you do it?

Lucas has only one bottle....at night. We are going to take it away next month and hopefully it'll work out.
We took away the other bottles a week after we put him on whole milk. Since he doesn't get as much of that as formula it was pretty easy...and he's eating table food well. I think I got caught up on the whole big boy thing and wanted to hold on a little longer...I justified it by saying that it was too much change at once. But next month I will try.

Actually , no it wasnt. We slowly didt. We started with eliminating the bottle in the middle of the day, then the morning, and finally got rid of the night one. They now get milk in their sippy cups.

DS is 21 months. He had been getting a sippy of milk in the morning and a bottle of milk at night. He has had a tummy virus for the past week so no milk at all since Thursday. It might be because he has been sick but he has not missed the milk at all! I was terrified that he would not sleep with out the bottle but I still did our routine but without the bottle. No problems at all.

My son is 19 months, he gets a bottle at nap time and a bottle before bed. We plan to be off the bottle totally by 2. My doctor did the same with her son. You are not the only one.

Re: For mommies of 12-16 month olds.... or BTDT
My DD is 17 months and still has about 3 bottles a day. Her day care person has three kids on bottles and DD gets too upset when she tries to give her a sippy so we are waiting until next week when I am home for the summer to cut out the bottle in the middle of the day.
My child is seriously addicted to her ba-ba as she calls it. On weekends we try to keep it to one at wake-up, one before her nap and one after her bath before bed. I asked my doctor about it and she said, just keep trying. She will drink milk out of a sippy, she just loves the comfort of her bottle.
I plan on being done by 18 or 19 months but I know it will be a battle.

When I was home for April break dd was 13 months old and I was planning to switch the morning bottle to a cup, she did so well with it that by the end of the week I switched the nighttime bottle that week too. Maybe your dc will surprise you!

Steven is 19 months and still gets a bottle at bed time. Sometimes he'll get one with his nap too, but olny if he asks for it.

Does a night time sippy cup count?

DS is 13 months and still LOVES his morning and evening bottles.
I asked the Ped if we needed to get rid of them and he asked me why I would think that.
I don't see those two stopping anytime soon.

DS does not take a bottle anymore, but I wanted to say that he is in daycare and only he and another baby ( ) are off bottles in his room (12-18 months) all of the rest of them get bottles.
I think bottles need to be gone by 2? I think it just gets harder to take them away

I agree, that's why I got rid of the bottles and never looked back. A bottle was NOT an option once we switched to sippies so she knew if she didn't take the sippy it was nothing (that lasted a day....at daycare seeing the other kids with bottles).
At that age, a bottle at bedtime brings on concern for bottle rot also. I would just make sure you are brushing DC's teeth before bed.

Re: Edited with another related ? For mommies of 12-16 month olds.... or BTDT
my daughter was never very attached to her bottle so we transitioned at 12 months. If she was attached, I would not have had a problem offering it to her for a bit longer. my personal cutoff would be 18 months but there is nothing wrong with a 2 year old having a bottle at night, IMHO

Re: Edited with another related ? For mommies of 12-16 month olds.... or BTDT
DD is 18 months and still takes a morning and evening bottle. She really won't drink her milk otherwise (I actually took it away for several weeks). It wouldn't be a big deal except that she is a little peanut and I feel she needs all the fat/nutrition she can get.
I really do not see the need to take it away so early.
To answer the 2nd question, no, she never falls asleep with it. She gets her evening bottle next to me on the couch and she is fully awake - after she finishes we say night-night and put her in her crib.
