The Texas Chainsaw house was also inspired by him.

Edward Gein inspired Psycho because he dug up his mother's corpse and tried to taxidermy (sp?) her.

He inspired Buffalo Bill because Ed was trying to make a "woman suit"

he inspired Texas chainsaw massacre in no real way because he only killed 2 people. both were women. He hit them over the head with a shovel (like Norman did to his mother in Psycho 2) and that's what killed them. But, then he "took them apart"

because he has SEVERAL victims
he did the same thing to the majority of them
making him a serial killer.

Yes i knew about the Texas Chain Saw association...which i see

but i think the psycho thing is far fetched...

The man was one of the most heinous serial killers i can think ofChat Icon

His mother was also very domineering and taught him that sex was sinful like Mrs. Bates

The Texas Chainsaw house was the main thing in the movie that was inspired by him. Gein used to dig up women's bodies from the graveyard and dissect them. He would keep parts of them and had some of the parts hung around his house. He also upholstered a chair in human flesh which is also part of the "decor" in the movie.

Re: Edward Gein - I had NO IDEA!!!

YES that is true and the fact that all of them (Ed, Buffalo Bill, Leatherface)
all took the skin from their victims and wore them

that is the real common link

LOTS of serial killers have kept bodies and such but those three used their victims to create a new look for themselves

Of course Ed being the REAL one
And that is truly frightening that these killers on screen, well they EXIST in REAL LIFE

Re: Edward Gein - I had NO IDEA!!!

And Ed isn't the only serial killer to inspire multiple movie characters

Many people say that Charlie Starkweather and Caril Fugate were the inspiration behind the characters in the Natural Born Killers, Kalifonia, Wild at Heart AND True Romance

He also kept a room in the basement set up as his mother's bedroom with all furniture, etc, exactly as she would've left it.

IMO the similarities between Norman Bates and Ed gein is weak at best.
