To my knowledge, there is only one poisonous spider found in NY. The Brown Recluse or "Fiddleback" spider:
Do you see the violin on it's back? That's how you identify it. This one can cause you serious harm, and much like the Black Widow, will seek out dark undisturbed places.
I've seen this one in person in a campground bathroom, it is really small. If you see this one, run. Otherwise, I think you and your family are safe
