Effaced, but not dilated, Birth Question
I just got back from my dr's appt, and I made some progress from last week, but I am still not dilated, only effaced.
Is it possible to dilate in a short time? Or should I keep my mindset to I am going late.
Right now I am 37.5 weeks. I am contracting, they are stronger this week than last week. (I have weekly NST's).
Was anyone in a similiar situation? WHat do you think?

Yes its possible. I think effacement is the important step and dilation soon follows if it doens't go along with it....I think.

Re: Effaced, but not dilated, Birth Question
Dialation can happen quickly.
I went for my appt at 39 weeks, I was 2cm dialted. 2 days later Maddie was born.
With Joseph I went for an appt at 34 weeks & was dialted 1cm, 4 days later Joseph was born.

Re: Effaced, but not dilated, Birth Question
I went for my 38 week appointment and my doctor said just 1 cm - it's going to be a while. Jesse was born the next day - my water broke on it's own less than 24 hours after my appt. It can definitely happen!

Re: Effaced, but not dilated, Birth Question
yes...I started contractions, but was only 1 cm, the doctor predicted I would be 2+ days, but the next day i went to the hospital and was 5 cm!
don't only pay attention to the length of time between contractions, if I had, I would never have left for the hospital. The length and intensity of each contraction is important too!
