Eggshell or Satin paint finishes

We are painting our bathroom (will post pics when we are done) and don't want to go glossy or flat.

Is there much of a difference between the eggshell and satin finishes? Are they the same thing? Which would be better for a bathroom?

Thanks!

Re: Eggshell or Satin paint finishes

i don't know about satin, but my father used eggshell in one of the bathrooms in his house and it looks AWFUL. it's SO strange, and every little imperfection shows up.

i know you said you don't want to go with flat, but that's the only kind of paint i will use indoors from now on.

use satin for the bathroom. much better finish. also, make sure you get paint made for bathrooms...just tell them when you are getting the paint mixed....we didnt get the bathroom paint when we first moved in and the paint started to peel and discolor because of the moisture in the air.

Good point! Thanks! I had no idea that they made bathroom-specific paint!

Also, use a good ceiling paint which is where most moisture/mold collects.

Zinsser Paint makes a good bathroom ceiling paint, Perma-white (Satin!), available at Lowes and HD.
