EI (switching therapists)
DD has been getting speech and special ed 2x a week each. We got the results of her 3 month evaluation and they contradicted each other completely. Speech said shes saying new words consistently, pointing to pictures, body parts, makes eye contact and is more focused. Special ed said she doesnt point to anything, doesnt say many new words, doesnt make eyecontact and has tantrums. I see all DD can do and all the progress she has made. I'm even filming it. Her sessions with speech are great but special ed always ends early because DD gets frustrated. My DH and I are considering a new spec. ed therapist. She is very good at what she does but they just dont seem to connect and I feel like DD is losing precious time with those sessions.
If your child had EI and you decided to switch therapists why did you do it and how did it work out?

Re: EI (switching therapists)
we have not had to switch any therapists out, but i know a great special ed therapist in the nassau county area.
she has been with my DS since he was 15 months old (he is now 25 months old)
but if you want to switch i would contact your service coordinator & let him/her know your concerns.
good luck... and no one takes offense if you switch

Re: EI (switching therapists)
I switched OT therapists, not through EI, but through insurance. He just wasn't doing anything with DS. We ended up getting a much better therapist when we changed.
It doesn't hurt to change, especially if you're not seeing great results.

Re: EI (switching therapists)
I didn't have to switch Ry when he was in speech and Spec Ed with EI, but I totally should have looking back. His speech teacher just did not clique with him, and he was completely frustrated the entire session. She just didn't get him. Spec Ed on the other hand was a joy and she really make progress with him. I say def switch if you feel that it's just not working out with the Spec Ed therapist.

I have switched therapists and it worked out for the best.
Honestly, don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings here. The focus is on getting your child the best services available with someone whom they will respond well to. I have a great one in nassau as well. she worked WONDERS with my son!! fm if you want her name.
